Amazon Prime - Dont have it then you can wait.

As in the case of my order, ordered Sunday, dispatched Friday, delivered Saturday. Well according to their delivery terms the order shouldn't be with me until Wednesday of next week at the earliest.

Which I would say fits in with what Werewolf said just fine...?

You said it came early? Is that a problem? You're saying you want them to hold on to things and not deliver them?

I didn't say it proved anything, just that it fitted in with what had been suggested.

Well given that Amazon don't quote estimated dispatch times, you can't say whether it was early or not.

It's clear this is nothing new - https://www.amazon.co.uk/forum/deals?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1DEIHNWYF5SA9&cdThread=Tx38HLKQJ7NHXUC

And despite your confidence in the integrity of Amazon, you can't deny the best way to encourage somebody to pay for Prime is clearly to make the vanilla service worse, else there would be little incentive to upgrade.

Who said I have confidence in their integrity? I just have an understanding logic and not just expecting the worse from big companies.

And this is clearly what you're hanging on to despite quite logical arguments against it just being this. Personally I would think it is a more dangerous strategy because many people will simply use a competitor as is evident from this thread.

**EDIT** This will be my last reply to you, thank god for ignore.

So what's your issue, that they said 3 to 5 days after available for dispatch rather than quoting it from point of order?

It's ambiguous. You should get an estimated time of delivery, then people can make an informed decision about whether they want to pay for upgraded delivery or not.

If Overclockers took your order and sat on it for 5 days, you'd have a ton of complaints. That's the difference, Amazon operate at a different level because of their size.

I'm not opposed to the idea of Prime, but the vanilla service shouldn't be degraded as a result, and anecdotal evidence of the last 4 or 5 years suggests it has.

But they've not delivered a lesser service than what is expected have they? We're not talking about quoting next day and not bothering. They're saying 3 to 5 days and it's taking 3 to 5 days. Just because sometimes it used to come sooner 5 years ago doesn't mean they're deliberately degrading service to encourage Prime sales.

Seriously?

Sure. Do you not think arguing on the internet just isn't worth the time and frustration especially when you think the other person isn't understanding things? (I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, just that I struggle to understand how they can think something/not understand what to me seems simple logic) If I don't ignore, I'm tempted to just keep replying. We've clearly established we disagree, surely the sensible/time saving thing to do is to just use the ignore button and leave it there? I love it myself. Maybe I shouldn't say when I use it, but then maybe that's rude :p

I prefer to keep communication channels open just in case I'm actually wrong.

Yeah, I'm happy to hear someone out and see if they can persuade me, but when someone isn't really making much sense to you, I don't think there's much point.

Historically, Amazon have consistently delivered earlier than their suggested date for much the same reason that trains run more slowly than they need to - customers would think that Amazon were performing better than expected.

However, since the introduction of "Prime" I believe that Amazon are now promising a later delivery date for non-Prime orders and possibly meeting it - hard to be sure, I tend to purchase elsewhere, ideally from a REAL shop. Avis used to have the wonderful slogan "We Try Harder" in order to differentiate themselves from Hertz who couldn't care less. Having eliminated much of their competition, Amazon has lost interest in customer service.

I don’t bother with Amazon anymore. The free delivery used to be good 3-5 days but now they just sit on the order for a week then dispatch. Can order many things from eBay for the same or less with free economy delivery and those are dispatched next day.

I think the non-prime service has got worse BUT that's only because it used to be so good. It's still not bad.

Prime is still pretty awesome. IIRC you can get same day deliveries in London.

The none prime service has definitely become worse. I ordered a game on PS4 before I accepted my prime trial
£24.99 and 3-5 day standard delivery was £3.99.....(Seller being amazon and dispatched by amazon, not third party)
That's almost small parcel price for something slower than 2nd class and is also NOT a small parcel.

Free standard delivery is now only included with a few QUALIFYING items over £10

Have to say I use eBay now now. Delivery is quick.
Not saying I won't use Amazon, but my go to is now eBay. Then Amazon.

Im fine with the delivery time. If I wanted quicker I'd get prime. I don't. It's true that delivery used to be quicker. And I do think it's because Amazon are pushing prime. But don't blame them. If you don't like it, go elsewhere!
