Amazon Prime sucks massive donkey balls

I ordered my new PC case via Amazon since it was cheaper than the listing on the OCUK site, even though it was sold and shipped by OCUK. Included free delivery as well. The delivery options were a bit strange though: Two days = Within 3 working days after order, Express (1-2 days) = ETA within 2 to 4 calendar days and standard was into the following week. Click on details and Express = 1-2 days. Was all a bit confusing so I went with Express at no additional cost and OCUK shipped it for next day delivery. Thanks OCUK....but confusing! :)

My wife and I order loads from Amazon each year. Their delivery can be hit and miss. Towards the end of 2017 it reached its worse with several items being left outside our house door which is about 2m from the street. What made it worse was that we were home each time and they didn't bother to even knock on the door. We checked the front door after receiving "delivered" notifications on our phones. Multiple complaints were lodged and nothing was done. Finally in February 2018 a £100 item went missing and since they had to reimburse us they finally decide to do something about it. Every since then the deliveries have been timely and handed to us or a neighbours, nothing has been left outside.

I've not normally had that (plus we have a secured porch they usually have instructions to leave stuff in) but a couple of weeks back I was woken from a nap by the Amazon driver ringing the door and hence a bit slow responding saw him from the window throw the parcel from the van to the door where it landed up against it and then drive off. As they don't normally do that, it was light weight and cheap plus not easily damaged by being dropped/thrown, I was slightly amused rather than cross but I doubt it would still have been there if I'd been out for the day, etc. The tracking said delivered to a neighbour.

When you pay drivers a pittance to work 12+ hour days 6 days a week with 5 seconds per delivery, obviously **** like this is going to happen. But we demand it. We want cheap/free delivery and we want it next day at the absolute latest even on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

My recent Amazon deliveries have been done by a smoking hot Easten European woman in some very tight clothing :D

But I've had prime a few years now, and I order quite regularly as I love the next day delivery, and in the whole pretty good prices!

Amazon could take some of their massive profits and lack of tax payments and use that to pay their drivers a decent wage instead of lining their own pockets though, couldn't they?

Customers are demanding the service as promised, but I don't recall anyone asking for next day/same day/drone deliveries, but Amazon pushed that as a differentiator in the market, and squeezed the courier companies on margin to get it.

The problem isn't the customers, it's Amazon not paying for a decent delivery service to their customers.

Same with any huge company really.

I demand nothing other than what I pay for.
If they paid the drivers more and charged is now I would still pay for it as it's a good service.

Of course we demand it. We go to Amazon because it's cheaper than anywhere else.

That’s a bit of a myth but I agree you are unlikely to pay over the odds.

I don’t think amazon makes a huge amount from retail, it’s web services and subscriptions are huge money spinners.

At the end of the day amazons behaviour is driven but it’s customers.

Happy with my student prime. Never had any issues with their one day delivery or prime delivery. Personally I like the fact that the vast majority of deliveries are on time and as expected. I don't have that many days off during the week so it's nice to be able to order on a Friday evening and almost always get items delivered on Sat. I don't agree with the way they treat their drivers and would personally be prepared to pay a little extra if they could improve that (not that I should have to).

Got an email today "Are you ordering for a business?" (I'm not ordering for a business) with an account breakdown for the last 6 months... I really didn't need to see how much I've spent in the last 6 months...

Cue the 'That's my business' reply email.

Good going though, you are officially a walking small business.

But just what have you been buying?!?

I got the same email but saying I’m buying in large quantities and cold save if I’m a business. Not sure how 3 of the same shorts for work is classed a large quantities.

Yeah same email: "you're receiving this email because you are purchasing on Amazon in large amounts. Are you purchasing for business?". Aside from a couple of incidental things like a backpack I use for work none of my purchasing is business stuff/work related.

Is it cheap tho?

OCUK DPD is FREE for us on here and "just works" plus with one hour delivery windows, £7.99 for others
Amazon prime I use less than once a month, its more per delivery and on top of that prime products have a price premium over non prime products so they buff up the product price as well to pay for it, in my opinion prime delivery is not cheap unless you use it heavily say 10 times a month.

I barely use Amazon any more, they used to be quite competitive with their pricing and would offer a reasonable service for non-prime orders, but it seems now their main focus is snaring the masses to use them by default through signing them up to prime where they won't pay as much attention to price.

You've also got to loathe their aggressive marketing they use in trying to trap customers into signing up to prime unwittingly as well, pretty poor really. The advertising agency has done them as well for not fulfilling their claim of prime being "next day" because they failed to meet the standard so often.
