AMD 7nm GPU News and Rumours 2018/2019

New refresh could be around 10% improvement in performance which isn't to be sniffed at for a card squarely aimed at the 1060 nvidia card. If it's shrunk it'll be able to go faster.

I heard it will be 1080ti levels for half the price. . . All aboard the hype train WOOOO WOOOO

That review actually (slightly) benefits the 580 - as they've ran both limited to their "stock" on paper reference clocks with the boost at 1746MHz for the 1070 - in actual use the 1070 benefits from its boost being able to do its thing which would lift an actual reference card numbers by about 6% in that review.

In reality the 1070 is easily around 39% faster than the 580 aside from the odd exception - the more interesting one if the Fury X that while it still lags behind over a wide range of titles actually runs the 1070 hard in the big name titles now with latest drivers for both.

Whereas I do agree there are some titles where the 580 does quite well against the 1070, 10-15% is far from the norm, which is just under the 40% mark.

It is an exception - in the realworld you far more often see instances of the 1070 ahead by more like 60% than you see instances where it is more like 10-15%.

Look like Polaris 30 wont coming for consumers but for OEM.

woudln't surprise me, it may be a re-spin to lower power consumption and/or increase yields to lower costs and make them more attractive for OEMs. Releasing Polaris for a 3rd time to the general public probably wont go down well.

If true then it might mean consuemr Navi comes slightly earlier, maybe May-July 2019.

Yeh a rebadge to the custom build community would go down pretty badly. 570/580 got away with it because of clock increases and it was at a time when AMD cards were pretty much snapped up before they even reached the shelves.

Now it would be more like G92 the 8800GTS/9800GTX/9800GTX+/GTS250 fiasco.

To be fair, most GPU buyers don't even know when a card has been rebranded, they just care about price and performance (and often not even the latter). If the new card is faster and cheaper while using less power then it will probably go down well. don't forget the £100-£200 market segment is the most important one for AMD/Nvidia. If AMD are offering a GTX1060 beater for less money that's a benefit to them and consumers.

Except that it's not a rebadge, it's an actual refinement as it's moving to 12nm. We'll see a performance boost, we'll see a wee improvement in power draw, and if can best the GTX 1060 for less money then the mainstream market will snap them up. Not everybody is, wants or needs to game at 3000p 1000Hz.

If it does turn out to be OEM only that'll be a shame, but it would certainly support the theory that this respin exists purely to keep the GloFo contract happy whilst AMD push their actual new stuff through TSMC's 7nm.

I honestly don't see the point in them putting out a card with a piddly 10% increase. Not like it has any new features to make it worth the upgrade either.

if its under £180 could be a nice little beastie but the cheapest 580's are £210 so cant see that happening wouldnt be surprised to see it nudging £250. shame but what most of us expected a reheat of what was already out and yet more mid order cards.

New buyers see the point of more performance for the same money. Though, considering how Nvidia managed to brainwash people into paying more £ for the same performance, I suppose it is a different approach.

thats IF its the same price, like i said i wouldnt be surprised if it hits near £250 so they dont cannibalise their existing cards.
