AMD 9800X3D ETA OFFICIAL THREAD

So, I waited in all day and night for my OcUK order with the 9800X3D to be delivered and the numpty driver never showed up.
Got an email from DPD saying sorry we missed you. No-one called or knocked on the door as, like I said, I was in all day and night, the dog always barks when someone is at the door.

DPD are usually very good in my area and have only let me down once before, in the 6 years that I have lived here.
They are supposed to be delivering today, so we shall see.
At least the driver today is someone who delivers to this house regularly and has never let me down.
Fingers crossed for later today.

Mine is in. Nearly twice the R23 single core score and also nearly double the score over my previous 10700k. Impressive. Trialling -20 which has brought temps down quite a lot. New to AMD so a bit of learning.

Ordered on 27th 21:00 and just got it delivered. Had to cancel my pre-order on AsRock NOVA MB and had to order ASUS ROG X870E-E which is getting delivered in the next 2 hours. Excited.
I'm in the same boat as you were with the 9800x3D and x870e Nova on pre order. Did you change from the Nova because you couldn't wait for it to come back in stock? Have you heard it's going to be a long time?

Just finished my little bag of Haribos while unboxing my new 9800x3d. As I do mainly do photo editing, I think I will be getting some G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo EXPO RGB 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C30 6000MHz while on special offer.

I am not sure of what motherboard to get yet. 10 Gb network for nas storage and 3 PCI-E slots to run peripherals is on my list of requirements, so I pretty much looking at the Asus ProArt at the moment.

If you're going to need that many PCIe slots to run stuff, then if you are also after a 10g onboard NIC, there are indeed limited options. One of the cheaper ones with 10g onboard would definitely be the ProArt (Have that here right now) without it skimping on other features. The other 10g capable boards are a fair bit more expensive and they primarily thew in more RGB which isn't helpful for someone who does visual imagery/video like us.

I ordered my 9800x3D on Thursday. I selected a Saturday delivery at a premium cost but nothing has shown up. I've been waiting in all day

I know DPD normally send a text or email with your timeslot which hasn't happened & I don't have a tracking number.

The payment has been taken & I have an order number but when I try to track via the tracking page via Overclockers using the order number it says it cannot find an order.

Annoyingly there is no customer support over the weekend so I have no idea what's going on :(

The plan was to get Nova, and then eventually 9800X3D. When I realised I will get CPU really quickly, I decided to sacrifice the Nova in order to complete the build. I had it on pre-order with OCUK competitors but they are famous for pre-selling and the pushing back delivery dates. I just didnt want to wait.

After some advice. I have 7900xtx and I am wondering if I should go for 9800x3d whenever I can get one or just settle for the 9700x. I run at 5120x1440p so it's close to 4k. Currently use the 7900x. Seeing very mixed reviews. Techpowerup shows only a few frames difference at 4k but then some yt videos show much more in the games they test, we are taking 20 FPS plus.

Thanks

So in general yes BUT it depends what you are upgrading from. So generally speaking at 4k most cpu's in the last 2 years or so will more or less the same frame rate. I am talking 13900k, 14900k, 7800x3D. But if you are upgrading from an older CPU the improvements will seem much larger.

Unfortunately my birdbrain logic decided 2 weeks before I got one to buy a 7800x3D as an interim chip and I was spoiled by it. I come from the lga1700 crew land of high power and high temps and I have owned them all.

When I first fired up the 7800x3D I was blown away by it's temps and efficiency. And I know now that had I not gotten it then my view on the 9800x3d wouldn't be so skewed as I actually love my 7800x3d more. Sure it slower in multi core performance by quite a bit compared to the 9800x3d. But I find most of my main usage very marginal. In fact some stuff I play it is actually a few frames slower.

Truth be told if a game runs lower on the 7800x3d compared to the intel equivalent take your pick of games then it is still gonna maintain that status quo on the 9800x3d. And putting games like baldurs gate 3 while it is a nice showcase of what the 9800x3d can do it remains for me a bit of an outlier. Sure 20-30 FPS is not be sniffed at.

Had I not gotten the 7800x3d I would be over the moon with it and joing the rest of the scooby gang gushing over it. As it stands i am considering selling it and going back to the 7800x3d. It only cost me 300 of the members forums and I have been chuffed with it ever since. No matter if I am gaming or benching on it I have never heard my AIO ramp up. Uses 80-85w at full load remains between 40-50c in game and not that much slower than the 9800x3d in gaming unless you had a frame rate AVG comparing the two

Thank you for your reply. So do you see much difference in 4k? Like I say tech power up only show like 3 or 4 FPS difference in their review between the 9800x3d and 9700x, whereas like I mentioned I have seen yt videos showing gains of like 20% in some games

This one in particular shows some very big gains at 4k. But do I trust what techpowerup say more than this?

I currently use the 7900x with 7900xtx and it isn't so much of an upgrade as I will still be using the 7900x in my editing pc, this would just be purely a gaming build.

So new builds would be

Editing rig:
7900x
3080fe

Gaming:
9890x3d/9700x
7900xtx

What would be your advice? Wait to get a 9800x3d or save some cash and get the 9700x

7800x3d is close to 9800x3d price at the moment

I bought my 7800x3d used for 300 off the used forums here.

The 7800x3d is very close to performance to the 9800x3d at 4k there is hardly anything in it besides outlier like baldurs gate 3.

But everyone’s different. There are loads of people who would say go for it and rightly so.

But if you are on a more modern cpu within the last two or so years the performance uplift is not as big as you are lead to believe. If you are coming from an older generation cpu the performance uplift is more substantial.

I don’t play at 1080p or 1440p which most review sites use to show it performance. That’s just not a realistic usage for me. I play at 4k where most of the bottleneck of will come from the gpu more than anything else. This has always been the way. You can’t change these metrics.

I can’t advise which path to take as a I am really new to the modern amd cpu lineup so I don’t know how a 7900x performs comparatively to a 7800x3d, 9700x or 9800x3d. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

Also in that vid you posted even though it says 4k max I don’t think it is. More like 1080p. Look at the cpu usage of the 9800x3d. It’s like 50-60% at 4k…Notice he doesn;t show you the res. Even if he was using Dlss where it render at a lower internal res it still would not be 60% usage. I went into cyberpunk and tried DLss performance and ultra perfomance and the most hte cpu was being taxxed was 40% top whack.

Apologies if it was in a recent post.

Any idea of when pre-orders for this will be open again? Got a friend wanting an AM5 x3d CPU but I've been telling him to wait for a 9800x3d as there's not much point buying the 7800x3d for the same price as a 9800x3d..

EDIT: Ah nevermind, can see pre-orders are open.. oops!
