AMD announce EPYC

Why moan about the power consumption or the clockspeed without actually describing a problem.

Do the numbers look unsuitable for a gaming cpu? :p

Because there's some excellent news about that.
 
Yeah, Intel needs to sort their Xeons out, that's for sure. If Epyc is able to outperform by cost then eventually when it comes to changing servers, they're going to go for something that offers more for less, even when it comes to electric bill.

If this zen5 Epyc is true then just single socket would mean one Epyc vs 4 Xeon's and dual socket and you only have to get two Epyc's against eight Xeons.

It's a no brainer business wise really. Especially when power is increasing in cost right about now, don't think even Intel threatening tactics will keep companies from using a less efficient server cpu when it comes to replacement time.

Intel really need to sort out their server cpu's quickly to combat this.

I think the plan is for Intel to try and offer Ponte Vecchio as leverage for Xeon until 2026. As things stand, I think the industry might demand Ponte Vecchio support on EPYC.
 
I was talking with a colleague about an upgrade for a project we are looking to take over. They currently have 12 Intel racks with 10-18 core Xeon’s. We could replace all 12 with a pair of 2P EPYC boxes and have performance to spare.
 
256 Cores, 512 Threads :D

When CPU's look like GPU's....

Hmm, it could mean that one Zen 5 chiplet has 32 cores and the 256-core EPYC has 8 chiplets :D

This was bound to happen; why would any company pick Intel over AMDs more efficient and cost effective architecture. Intel are going to lose a ton of market share with their dated architecture.
