AMD Bulldozer Finally!

It is weird Asrock have created a whole bunch of 800 chipset boards with AM3+ sockets, they must think they can get it working as all the descriptions state 8 Core CPU Support.

wow! you must have eyes like a hawk to spot that, so were talking one pin difference? :D hold on a second, what about the pin layout on the actual chip, does it have a pin for that hole? is there any shots of Bulldozer pin-out?

If they were that bothered they could add an extra pin onto the cpu that doesn't do anything.Fancy buying one and tearing that pin out when they're released? :p

I think the extra pin must be necessary because since am2 they have gone for maximum compatibility.

Asrock has always been known to create funky motherboards with a mix of old and new tech to support the latest CPU's. But with limited compatibility as new CPU's get released on the same platform later on in the life cycle. I still have that motherboard made by Asrock which has a skt 939 but supports AM2 with a riser card. Soon as AM2+ came out the board couldn't support them.

You're making the mistake of thinking 800 chipset = AM3. On AMD systems the chipset and CPU are almost totally decoupled, so any chipset will support any CPU. Asrock build AM3 boards using old Socket-939 era chipsets, and they work just fine. An AM3+ board using the 8xx chipset (or even 7xx for that matter) is no different really, there will probably be lots of those at the cheaper end of the market.

to be honest would just love to know whether this waiting has a point or whether I should just go for something else, not like my Q6600 is really on its dying legs or nothing but just want to build a much smaller, quieter system with a bit more horsepower, Bulldozer seems like the perfect thing to slot into it but I know nothing about their performance...*sigh*

At least we know the performance of the i5-2500K / i7-2600K. There are problably more around to make your mind up. Seems like a good upgrade, Don't know what the Bulldozer will bring but the i7 is a great chip anyway.

How does a rumor "confirm" things. Only the manufacturer can confirm and no statement will be made prior to launch, so please keep in mind these are rumors.

thing is mister JF, not to sound weird or anything, but why is no official date confirmed...? as a marketing person surely you agree that knowing when a product is going to be released to the public is an important thing, its AMDs big chance to take back some of the lost ground in the mainstream desktop market, but all they seem to be doing is 'avoiding' saying anything. Intel messed up big-time with their whole chipset business, they have basically shunned the enthusiasts with their 'no overclocking unless we say so...' routine, they are by all rights and respects and evil company! come on AMD win the hearts and minds of the people, there is still such thing as 'word of mouth...' to sell products.

I'm sure the OEMs & certain Retailers have been given the details of when the likelihood of a release.

COME ON AMD - HURRY UP AND RELEASE THESE THINGS ALREADY - Stop milking the old Thuban cow ;)

kinda sucks Im going to have to wait to june, was thinking SB for a long time (to upgrade from my core 2 quad) but though I might of well wait and see what Bulldozer brings to the table. Got a empty Corsair 700D not doing anything atm.

Thats what I was saying earlier like 10 pages ago, not like were getting BD anytime soon 3 months still far off....

If anyones upgrading or whats a new pc/setup u gotta go Sandybridge.... would be great timing also being crysis 2/dnf arriving...

My 5870/Q6600 does everything fine for now, think id like to wait for a BD 8 core unlocked and 8gig/new vertex SSD for summer time :)

I have a mildly overclocked Q6600 myself so don't really need an upgrade ATM as it still does the job.

I would rather replace my current system when I have an idea of how Bulldozer performs. ATM,the three module design looks the most interesting as it supposedly has 8MB of L3 cache like the 4 module design.

Anticipation is half the pleasure :p

I'm in the same boat, also upgrading from a Core 2 Quad and have a Silverstone Fortress FT02 sitting empty just waiting for some shiny new components...

Not knowing made think it was not going to be that great or they would be shouting from the rooftops, so I have now ordered a 2600k and some ddr3, just need to get me a B3 motherboard now and I'm good to go!!

thats another sale lost AMD! I'm sure its not the first or the last either because of no info.
