AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Oh dear, just saw some new AM3+ info from ASrock here. States that the pin spacing is different for the new socket. Confusion ensues...

ASrock's new boards are still 8xx-based, so I'm really not sure what to make of this and what effect this might have for those on current AM3 boards.

Might just be a marketing tactic by Asrock, I wouldn't like to say for certain....

I'm just going to sit tight and see what happens, if bulldozer works with no ill-effects on the Asus Crosshair IV then I'll upgrade my CPU otherwise I'll wait a while too see what AM3+ boards surface and prices

I have no real need to upgrade my CPU as my OC'd 945 still does everything I need it to do and at a good speed so I'm in no rush to switch to AM3+...... so far anyway lol :p

I would say the same thing as I'm so incredibly close to getting a 955 system, but... you always want the latest toys, right? xD

It does also state on the site they're using an 8xx chipset on their "real" AM3+ boards even though AMD stated that the AM3+ platform to be "real" should be an AM3+ socket combined with a 9xx series chipset (scorpius i think), so just same old same old marketing by the sounds of it.

This is starting to annoy me, until this morning I was settled on picking up an x6 this weekend... until I open my mail to find my CC limit is being increased in June... may as well wait 'til then and look into grabbing an 8110 or 8130 instead.

Anyone got any updated benchmark 'leaks' to compare the bulldozers to the new gulftowns? Want to make sure I'm making the right decision going back to AMD.

Sure its posted in this thread somewhere the slide showing system costs v's a sandybridge system. JF-AMD hasn't denied it either

That would mean about £300 tops for the cpu only ;)

I don't comment on things like that. Especially because it is desktop.

Don't ever take my lack of comment as a confirmation.

Oh :( you haven't commented on whether BD was being packaged with fluffy pink bunnys either. My dreams of bunny heaven have been put on hold now, grr

Maaaaan, I wanted fluffy pink bunnys too :D

Anyone searching for BD benchmarks at the moment, be warned - theres some seriously messed up stuff out there, - STAY CLEAR cus its false poo.

The AsRock marketing is quite funny though - To their 6 points I have the following response:

1)- The sockets black - OMG! - The pin holes are larger too LOL!
2)- Since when did the power link need speed? Can tweak that on my CH4 (supports better power management - first thing an OC'er switches off )
3)- Environmentally friendly! Errr ok
4)- Less CPU noise - Errrr ok too (Ain't that why we pay for super duper PSU's!)
5)- Higher current support - (Sure my CH IV can beat that )
6)- New Bracket makes the CPU cooler!!!!! - anything you say ASRock

Sick stunt by asrock - Allot of maybe's and the rest is rubbish which any overclocker would switch off. Just because they're AM3 boards 'may not' support the other one decent mentioned feature doesn't mean that others can't.

UEFI - Now that's interesting! - If it supports BIOS boot in less than 2 secs then I maybe interested!

But with regards to getting a CHIV or an AM3+ board - if you ain't got a CHIV already - I'd recommend waiting for the AM3+ boards to guarantee 100% compatibility with BD

I'm with psychas though:
should wait tbh , not so long left , however i will first buy cpu on chIV then if chV justifys with its features i'll get that. saying that i have ch4 for a year now or so.

Tbf, a Dremel could widen those cpu holes :)

Reading that reminded me of this from many a year ago...

Haha, wow, that's almost as bad as this guy I saw on a Swedish forum who went to the freezer and got some ice out, which he then proceeded to throw into his case after he thought his overclock ran a bit warm. xD
