AMD Bulldozer Finally!

:) Do you honestly think the poor guy would just say nah sod it, go to Intel anyway even if it turned out to be a total flop. Unless he's been headhunted by Intels marketing team I dont think he could give you a definite answer.

He didn't say go AMD either though. He basically said when Bulldozer is released everyone can make up their own minds.

Poss the lack of a reply might say something.

The way i think is if it was good they would be shouting it from the roof tops.

SB was leaked ages before release and look how thats turned out :)

Am not taking the not shouting it from the roof tops as an admission its disappointing, if he did start shouting it did this and that and it left Intels latest offerings lagging, we would just turn around and ask for proof which he wouldn't be able to give us at the minute anyway, so its kind of a no win situation at the min for him at this time anyway.
Like Cat said we can make up our own minds anyway after release, and I wasn't having a go at JF, i was just pointing out hes kind of in an impossible situation to be asked the question should we wait or go to Intel, (for the sake of a few weeks am waiting anyway).
To be honest I like the way how Intel are announcing and leaking IvyBridge stuff at the moment (Do they know more about BD than we do? and are trying to use terms like 3D to take a little bit of light off AMD?) and am taking the lack of info coming out of AMD as AMD's usual business practice of being quiet about things until launch(ish) time.

Thats the feeling I'm getting about this whole thing too mate, I still got high hopes for BD ;)

To be honest, with most people buying sandy bridge systems earlier in the year, I think they're giving themselves a bit of time so they can sell them for a bit cheaper to a wider range of people.

However, Intel are going to use the lack of information given out about BD to their advantage by pretty much saying "what another few months and you can get THIS".

That's my take on it.

Thing is when IvyBridge hits I'm assuming talk on BD-E will be around also and thus the circle begins again, so we follow the usual pattern, people seem to forget about the enhanced Bulldozer when they start talking about IB.

As for the UEFI Bios, Asus have said some of their boards are gonna have that feature on the 9xx chipsets. (See above table).

It's not looking promising is it..
With this whole "Module" thing, it could possible be only as fast as a Phenom II 2 per clock :S
Shame my 2500k is in the cupboard =/

Proberly been posted before...

http://www.donanimhaber.com/islemci...ulldozer-FX-islemcisi-icin-test-sonuclari.htm

Fud are suggesting the 8 core fx desktop AMD chip will only just catch up with the 2600k

Im itching for a 2600k+Z68 mobo kit and Vertex SSD :) Be a lot better to wait for a better graphics card this fall imo.

This is a supposed leak so we cannot say for sure if it is real.

Anyway,the Core i7 990X is SLOWER than a Core i7 2600K in PCMark Vantage.

Looks at this article:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/core-i7-990x-extreme-edition-gulftown,review-32126-4.html

A 3.46GHZ six core Core i7 990X is around 20% faster than a 3.2GHZ Core i7 960 in PCMark Vantage. The Core i7 990X is 8% higher clocked than the Core i7 960 meaning that the additional two cores are adding 12% to the score and on top of this the Core i7 2600K is still faster.

Even when you consider the 100MHZ increase in clockspeed and an extra 4 threads the Core i7 2600K is under 10% faster than a Core i5 2500K in PCMark Vantage:

http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/Intel_i7_2600K_i5_2500K/8.html

PCMark Vantage does not scale well beyond 4 cores.

Like JF-AMD says wait until Bulldozer is released and then you can get an indication of its performance.

Asking that question was like asking what should I have for dinner? There are so many variables, your workload, your budget, what you are trying to accomplish, what are you using now, etc. Really. He expected someone to make a decision based on that?

I don't tell consumers what to buy, I don't know desktop workloads. I work with server customers and before I can get to a recommendation I spend about an hour going through the details.

I also don't give advice to consumers because I don't want anyone complaining that they made the wrong desicion and blaming it on me.

So the best thing for everyone to do is wait until you have all the data then make the best decision with what suits you.

What sort of price do you guys think we are we looking at for the 4 core bulldozers and is 14th june the supposed date OcUK might have some? If so is the 955 likely to come down by more than £10?
