AMD Bulldozer Finally!

The good people of Donanimhaber have caught a sneak peek of AMD’s launch plans for the summer of 2011 and the future looks promising.

Starting at Computex, AMD will introduce 9-series chipsets, including Zambezi FX chipsets and a new chipset, of Fusion Controller Hub for upcoming APUs. AMD will follow up the chipset launch at E3, where it will show off new AM3+ motherboards.

As for the mainstream stuff, Llano and Sabine are scheduled to launch on June 12 in Asia, while the launch date for the rest of the globe is June 14.

So, from Taipei, through Los Angeles to Seattle, we will see quite a few significant launch events and we guess the AMD crew will still have plenty of sunny days left to take a well deserved holiday before the back to school shopping spree starts.

waits for e3 and june 14th we probably see benchmarks then

probably been asked earlier in forum but i can't be bothered to browse at the moment, any idea of entry level chips costs in the bulldozer range? :O

I would be interested in an upgrade if I could get a mobo, cpu and ram for around £400

 a month to go!

But then again is it worth it? Imo it would only be worth it, if it raised the performance of my 5870.

I would have to pick up an ssd as well, so all in all, it would cost about £500 for new bits, and I would still only be running a 5870.........

20% over a 1100T - Think I'm there already lol

hmmm - depends how it fairs in multi-tasking tbh - PCMark and PCVantage are hardly realistic benchies of a CPU's overall performance.

With IB set to be 10-15% better then SB these don't have to be that brilliant in their first incarnation. It is the first cpu of a completely new architecture so plenty of room for evolution and performance increase. If it matches SB and is out before IB there will be competition and better prices for those who matter most us the customers win win for me :).

Well it will have a six month headstart on Ivybridge but of course Sandybridge-E will come before Ivybridge.

AMD probably bring out some new faster clocked BD CPUs like they always do until the refresh of BD design.

End of the day if they get the pricing right and it offers competitive performance to Intel ,not to meantion decent overclocking then it can't really fail.

A Core I7 2600K beats a Core i7 990X in PCMark Vantage:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/core-i7-990x-extreme-edition-gulftown,review-32126-4.html

This indicates the benchmark does not make very good use of more cores. Hence, the top end Bulldozer CPU is doing a good job if it is matching a Core i7 2600K.

Edit!!

Even when you consider the 100MHZ increase in clockspeed and an extra 4 threads the Core i7 2600K is under 10% faster than a Core i5 2500K in PCMark Vantage:

Intel breakthrough on smaller chips
The world’s biggest chipmaker and its largest chip equipment maker have signalled major changes in the global semiconductor industry, announcing separately a breakthrough in miniaturisation and a near-$5bn manufacturing deal.

Intel: (it's amazing just err "we cannot comment at this time" "we are not discussing xx item at this time") There going to have ample time to make these "revolutionary" chips. 1yr of leak's etc there going to play amd's card with bulldozer -.- "oh noes chipset not ready /delay" Shouldn't wind me up but it does and i do what i always do.... not give 2 c's and get what's bang for buck XD

Ppl thinking of saving in this thread for buldozer... if it destroy's intel it's not going to be £20 more expensive it will be £200+ easy. I bought an FX 51 on release :S did i use it :P no. but it was a god dam good chip. would i do it again f no. I say bring on the new stuff in the hope it's only "just" better so i can save on the old stuff.

AMD are screwed. First Phenom was hyped as being super awesome, but it turned out to be a worthless SUPER fail POS. Then Phenom 2...which was decent, but still really not a good option as it barely performed as well as Kentsfield and clocked similarly....and now it seems that Bulldozer won't offer the price/performance that the competition offers.

A bit overly dramatic there...

Can you provide us with some concrete evidence proving that AMD are "screwed"?
It just sounds like speculation based off some **** graphs and sourceless rumours to me.

LOL - Is that just to make yourself feel better for upgrading to an 2500k? :P

Even if it just comes on parr with a 2600k for single-threaded stuff, it should trounce it on the truly multi-threaded stuff. I'm still waiting to see - simply sticking one of these first gen BD's in my existing setup is going to be a heck of allot cheaper than changing to a completely new platform - one thing is certain AMD will be competitive price/performance wise ;)

The chances of AMD ever being screwed are a billion to 1.

AMD cater for a different market than intel. AMD tend to do the best budget cpu's. For the price phenom II are fantastic processors and tbh will suit 99% of the average persons needs.

Intel tend to have the more expensive cpu's and cater for enthusiasts.

AMD = strong in budget department
Intel = strong in enthusiasts department

Only recently intel are taking the market by storm with the great sandybridge. Next year it will be something else that rules the market and sandybridge will be forgotten. it could be intel or AMD no1 knows.
