Zen was made on a 14nm 3Ghz node, despite this Ryzen and Threadripper still clock to 4Ghz+
12nm is apparently much much faster so should clock inline with Intel, AMD did say they expect double digit performance improvements with Zen+

All that aside, only goes to show what we can expect this year from AMD. They'll keep the CPU train rolling and not even bother with GPUs. I'm just glad I got a decent 980ti while the going was good. Unless they can fix their mistakes with a Vega refresh... but would anyone even be interested in that?

If I could like this post I would!!when there's info from AMD on their roadmap for graphics cards, i'll add them here... but oddly, they've been surrprisingly quiet about graphics so far at CES
giving a few hints about GPU's dropping to the same 12nm and then 7nm process... but no real dates or release schedules that i've seen at all.
makes me think they've got something big to announce in a few months and want to have their own spotlight, rather than sharing with everything else at CES
A bit of a strange post.
It's quite clear - from that slide entitled "2018 Graphics Portfolio" that the only desktop GPUs for the year will be Vega 56 & 64.
Vega 7nm is for AI only.
AMD just don't have the resources to launch a new desktop GPU every year. Vega 56/64 has to last until Navi, going up against whatever nV will bring this year.

The "fanboy" reaction would be to ignore the obvious conclusion and pretend that the slide was "ambiguous", when it totally isn't. No new consumer GPU in 2018. They've spelled it out for you.
Assumption it is not. Just basic reading comprehension.
It also fits with what we know about AMD and RTG. Division starved of cash, lost its leader, in disarray. They've been handed a lifeline thanks to miners otherwise they'd pretty much have had to write off Vega and go back to the drawing board.
AMD have shown some slides off at a big trade show. Everything else is your opinions. Or maybe hopes.
My hope was that AMD would release a better GPU in 2018. Failing that, that nV would.
I no longer have any hope for AMD, and I'm not even sure nV are going to have anything but Pascal until Q3.
Why would I hope for AMD to suck? Because I like having fewer options? I'm not that petty. But I haven't had much hope for AMD for a long while. They are the masters of talking the talk then being unable to walk without falling flat on their faces. They are so cash starved that releasing anything is a major triumph for them.
It doesn't pay to delude yourself with unrealistic expectations, jigger. AMD will just disappoint you. Crush you with broken dreams
nV will fulfil your dreams... but at the cost of your soul, one of your kidneys, and your firstborn child. I prefer AMD when they're actually delivering.

Spot on - why anyone would have hope after Polaris and then Vega I have no idea - they pretty much need to knuckle down and prove themselves with a shrunk and refreshed Vega or they might as well not exist in this market. If nVidia did release a 10 or 7nm gaming optimised architecture early this year I can't see how they could reply to that.
