AMD Driver Performance - 12.10 WHQL Vs 13.3 Beta 3

[H] comparison is pointless as it doesn't use the in game BM-it uses a set part of the game.

TR has been patched a few times since release results were obtained too, so they won't be valid either for a true comparison with matts results.

They use the 13.3 Beta 2 for testing. I am not getting involved with these petty arguments again about [H] and that slide was used as reference of a 7970 only and all the results shown didn't match to Matt's. I am sure if [H] use the latest drivers (as of that test), they would use the latest patches, so seems to be pointless to lie about the results.

I did question Matt's results because they look very high for what the internet shows.

Have you changed the shadows to Ultra as i haven't and they didn't in those reviews either. I just select Ultimate preset then enable 2xSSAA.

Yes, I have everything on max details including motion blur and ultra shadows(I did ask that you ran it with Full details).

It makes sense now why your results look very high.

Surprising how much shadows make a difference.

This is with the ultimate settings chosen from the pre game load. (+130/+200)

Big difference.

Yeah ultimate shadows do cost a lot of FPS to run. I didn't notice much difference in IQ either to be fair.

Probably worth bearing in mind:

So please keep thing civil and keep the AMD -v- Nvidia discussions out of this thread from now on. Any of more of this and I'll issue a 7 day suspension regardless of previous history.

Emphasis on the civil part. :)

Anyway this thread has been pretty well derailed now anyway. Gonna abandon it and start a new one.

Maybe a good time to remind people what i wrote in the OP

"I will be adding more games+benchmark results to this thread in due course. Other AMD users please feel free to contribute your own AMD benchmarks to the thread".

I'm going to start a new thread in which i will provide benchmarks at 1080p using standard ultra settings for the following games.

Battlefield 3
Bioshock Infinite
Crysis 3
Dirt Showdown
Farcry 3
Hitman Absolution
Metro2033
Resident Evil
Sleeping Dogs
Tomb Raider

I will update the thread once a month when a new driver is released along with the performance percentage difference that each driver brings.

I'm unsure what clocks i should use though, any suggestions?

I'm thinking either 1125/1575 - Something every 7970 can achieve. Or 1200/1700 something that the large majority can do. Or 1250/1823 to really flex those muscles. What does everyone think?

I don't want to run different clocks as i found out when i started this thread it takes far too long. I'm erring towards 1250/1823 but am open to suggestions.

^Let me know if you want some 7970 CF results too, own the majority of those games and have wednesday off work :D

I would say clocks should be that of a Lightning BE, with it being the fastest commercially available (a faster stock HIS card exists, its like gold dust though) 7970. 1150/1500.

Yes that would be great. I'm using that template Greg created and will use that with open office to post the results.

Ok here's what im thinking.

CPU @5.0ghz, if you're on ivy then maybe run at 4.8-4.9ghz. Can you run both your cards at 1200/1700? I'm quite liking the sound of that clock for some reason. I also will have to link you to some time demo benchmarks that i will copy to produce the results. I'll drop you a trust shortly with all the goodies.

I'm happy to leave resident evil 6 out if you dont have it.

I don't have RE6, I can always sniff out copies of anything vital though.

1200/1700 isn't a problem, been up as high as 1310/1875 with volts to spare.

CPU @ 5GHZ, HT enabled, memory at 2133 CL9 ok? My ripjaws should be with me today that do 2133 CL9 at XMP :)

That's great, what chip do you have? My memory is the same speed and timings as yours so thats good. Re6 does have an ingame benchmark, but i think it only gives you a number rather than min mav avg.

I'm awaiting my copy of crysis 3 from AMD. That should be with me either today or tomorrow hopefully, but i can do all the others today.

Dropping you a trust now.
