AMD: FAQ for Project FreeSync is up

I think Intel probably will make use of the VESA DP Standard.

I can't see Nvidia doing it under any circumstance, in doing that its almost like a perception of Nvidia saying AMD has the better solution.
If Nvidia didn't already have G-Sync? maybe, Nvidia Didn't pass off on GDDR5 and IMC's...

Nvidia and AMD could work together on many great things, they have great individual talents which if pooled would result in fantastic things.
But it seems a lot of time that they are bitter rivals, sometimes that rivalry seems almost personal. no mutual partnership can ever seed from that.

Ah, the c-suite egos, always the hardest to manage and balance off against the simplicity of dollars and cents. :p
Of course, these musings run counter to my interests as a consumer, so I merely express these as a matter of intellectual curiosity...lol The future indeed treats anyone harshly who hazards to bet money on a certain future outcome (without conviction)... :D

There's no real difference tbh. Amd can do things in there software and hardware just as Nvidia can. Nvidia would have to change the G-Sync module to have any advantage if there's even any advantage to doing so. Those with the old G-Sync controller would then have to upgrade. So there could be G-Sync 1,2,3,4 and so on. This would on;ly be done if G-Sync is better than Freesync or if there is any advantage going forward.

The gsync module is an fpga, so a hardware update and a firmware update are effectively the same thing, just saying

Nor should he, but MANY questions have been asked in the thread that he said he'd address, but he hasn't. Like I said earlier, it looks like the thread was only created due to the amount of popularity the gsync owners thread got.

Seems a trend, I've seen the AMD drivers thread bumped before when new nvidia drivers have just came out and vice versa, seems to be a constant struggle on which brand can have the most threads on top :D

Warsam never said he would answer any questions in this thread.

Click here to view the Project FreeSync FAQ. I hope you'll find the information helpful.

In addition, please post any questions you’d like answered here and we’ll update the FAQ accordingly. Thank you!

It's clear as day, that the FAQ is where the questions might be answered-somewhere they can dismiss/ignore/laugh at any chaff like questions.

Perhaps, I think it was more a case of an AMD rep replacing the Lt's thread(that got merged and lost with the other freesync thread) myself.;)

Was it you that got the gsync module for your monitor?

I did have a chuckle when Greg got my thread merged and this one popped up with exactly the same info two whole days later and remains untouched. :D

Of course they will, for the same reason listed below, maybe for the benefits in video playback but not for gaming in my opinion.

I can't see Nvidia doing it under any circumstance, in doing that its almost like a perception of Nvidia saying AMD has the better solution.

So your suggesting that Nvidia Will not be supporting any new VESA Display port Standards above 1.2, as supposedly all new standards 1.2a(optional) onwards will have Adaptive-Sync included?

Only certain members of this forum would perceive that Nvidia supporting future VESA standards is admitting that ncal-Sync (notcostalot-sync :D) is a better solution

Totally agree and well said.

But it seems a lot of time that they are bitter rivals, sometimes that rivalry seems almost personal.

Sorry you still talking about AMD and Nvidia or us lot on the forum :D:p:D

Yup, thats me. As for the FAQ, its not been updated with any new info though :S There are a lot of users on this forum, regardless of what GPU they currently own, who want to know far more about this tech than they are currently letting on.

There is some confusion here. Mantle will become open as in Intel and Nvidia will be able to write drivers to support it if they wish, once it leaves closed beta. It will not become an Open Standard.

They'll need to do more than write drivers to get the most out of it (Assuming it works at all with their current architectures, which I'd find unlikely). In the same vein AMD can't just "write a driver" for their 6XXX.

It's good that both AMD and Nvidia are now addressing issues such as this recently, as this has been one of those "issues" that we have had to accept for a while. (Don't count me as sounding slightly ungrateful, it's nice we can progress in other ways than X% incremental performance increases).

Problem being both of them now seem to be heading with down separate paths with their own solutions to issues instead of properly trying to work together. Ultimately it's going to be bad for all of us here being end users... (I don't want to be in a position in a few years time of having to upgrade my monitor every time I upgrade my gfx card myself).

O/T: Sad my 7950's don't support it, I'd be willing to shell out for a monitor to support this, but the card's not supporting it I mean cmon!... I know they have to make money but it's not cool being shafted. (I can't even begin to imagine the frustration of 280 owners, AMD have dropped the ball a bit there).

But yeah, good the industry is know progressing once again!
