**AMD Fiji Thread**

^^ Yup Nvidia went with the cheaper option. Nvidia's CEO said HBM would be to expensive for this year, and will introduce it next year when it is cheaper.

Well that speak is just as honest as the one was about skipping the console business on merit.
Hynix worked with AMD so only they have the HBM for this year..NV couldn't go with HBM even if they wanted to...they missed the bus (supporting HMC instead), and now they just try to act cool.

Its funny that 1-2 months before many said.."pff HBM it should save a bit of power maybe, but just a bit...its nothing great, AMD is stupid to use it"
Now: "Power saving is just because of the HBM ram...AMD did nothing...they are still stupid anyway"

They introduce their new lineup then and the status quo remains.

Hi,

Unlikely, Fiji is not completely redesigned. Without the benefit of low voltage IC it would put the TDP even higher. GM200 has a TDP of 250w as it is.

The game this is referring to is known as swings and roundabouts. It's not about being stupid or having preference, this is just how things have worked out with Fiji and Maxwell.

I'm interested in the Nano meself, curious to see how it performs compared to the other high end jobbies. Should find out tomorrow.:)
Hoping it'll be quicker than a 980.

Me too, Fury Nano is probably the one for me, unless it ends up less bang for £ than the Nvidia cards.

The usual power-draw reviewers report back on the 980 is 180 to 190 Watts, sometimes as high as 250 Watts on the Factory Overclocked ones.

Fury Nano has a 175 Watt TDP, thats 125 Watts less than the 290X and it will no doubt destroy it in performance, they have doubled performance per watt, thats not down to HBM alone.

Its also completely pointless to argue about 10 Watts.

So what? The 980 has a rated TDP of 165w. Who is to say that the Nano's TDP will not actually be higher in reviews?

its an incredible screen mate, had mine for a few months, easily the best thing ive played on.

Yeah does look great, im not bothered about the Freesync tbh (as ive managed fine without it up to now), its just the 144Hz, and i can just plug my 290 straight in, as got the DL-DVI on it as well, until i can get my hands on a Fury :D

I answered to the die shrink...NV will introduce their HBM2 lineup, and AMD will introduce theirs next year.

Or the fact since AMD co-developed HBM,they will probably be first to market with HBM2 also.

The 980 rates higher than its 165 Watt TDP in reviews, some times, not often but it does happen with factory overclocked cards its a lot higher, as much as 250 Watts.

If anything, up to this point Nvidia have a habit of understating their TDP while AMD over state it, cite the 290x 300 Watt TDP but actually pulls around 270 watts.

And again, its just 10 watts.
