AMD : FreeSync Monitors Shipping in December – Will Cost $100 Less Than Nvidia G-Sync

That is quite an assumption.

Not saying it is correct or not, but we have no idea of what the Nvidia hardware in their cards is capable of, Adaptive Sync compatibility might very well be incorporated into Nvidia cards, especially seeing as this technology started out as a laptop power saving feature.
Now whether Nvidia will add functionality to their drivers is another matter, as surely this would harm their Gsync product.

DisplayPort 1.2a specification is an Adaptive Vsync requirement, Nvidia need to deploy 1.2a onto their gpu's before they can run Adaptive Vsync.

Seeing as the 290/X was released before dp1.2a spec was released, it does seem to be something that only requires a software update - they are electrically identical after all

I thought AMD (or someone) said that some existing monitors already support Adaptive Sync but would need a firmware flash?

If that's the case, why is it taking until January for those manufacturers to flash the firmware of their current production run and put a sticker on the box?

I do wonder if naughty AMD has signed a exclusive contract with Samsung to be first, would explain the delays and why others makers have gone quiet :p

Seems unlikely as then AMD would've been holding back technology and advancements from the customers rather than advancing things for everyone. Besides which it's a VESA standard they're implementing, not an AMD tech, don't see how AMD could have any control over it (other than the driver/Freesync part).

Samsung and AMD are totally partners. Samsung are sharing die shrink stuff with them, why wouldn't AMD let them have an exclusive for the sake of a few weeks??

Maybe the guys who keep saying December/January launch will disagree with that. I think that is spot on.

Edit:

Ohhh and another thing I thought of....I fully expect to see Mantle in Street Fighter 5  You heard it here first folks ;)

Reading this back again I think I see where the confusion has come from, when Shankly said

And another thing Bru, do you understand why they showed it on a Laptop??

I'll give you a hint, because Laptops have always been able to run this tech.. So in that "ShowCase" they was no FreeSync drivers..

Indicating that there was no drivers(software) needed. He then went on to say

FreeSync is taking the Laptop power saving feature and bringing it to the Desktop Monitors and Graphic cards this needs new Drivers.

Well if it needs new drivers(software) then it obviously needs drivers (software) to work and yet in the very same post he has just said it didn't use any drivers.

It was that, that made me think he didn't understand how it works, and I wasn't saying that it didn't come from the eDP power saving feature or anything, just that it needs software to work.
It was me quoting shankly's post that melmac responded too with "Why? He is right,"
I wasn't disputing that this tech came from the laptop power saving feature, just that there was definitely software involved in some form of drivers for it to work.

These OMEGA drivers will have Free-Sync support, if that was ever in doubt here.

From earlier in November:

Also the whitepaper is available here if you've not seen it: http://www.vesa.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/VESA-Adaptive-Sync-Whitepaper-v1.pdf

Not a lot to see

Lmao, that isnt a white paper its just the gsync promo material with nvidia deleted and vesa plastered over it, nice find silent :D
