AMD FX Overclocking

Heya guys and girls,

So in another post I have on this forum I am having some trouble (basically it seems my CPU is overheating causing my system to freeze/lockup - might sound weird but it seems to be the cause)

So I was hoping you guys could recommend a GOOD cooler for my CPU. System specs are below.

CPU: AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9590 Black Edition 4.70GHz (Socket AM3+)
Graphics: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SSC 2048MB GDDR5
RAM:DDR3 8gig, 1333mhz
PSU: Antec Trupower Blue 750W

I need something that is going to be able to handle this CPU as it seems to use a lot of power.

thanks for any help in advance.

I agree with others, seems to be an overheating issue IMO. I know I wouldn't be happy with my temps hitting anywhere near those levels. I also wouldn't expect your cooler to be doing that badly. Nothing wrong with the choice of MB though, its one of the more recommended ones, although its a good idea to check the the heatsinks aren't loose or anything just in case.

As others have suggested, try re-seating the cooler, check thermal paste (I recommend the "pea" method, not spread), try and check pump is running or making any unusual noises. Is the fan running and ramps up under load or is it 100%/set to a certain level all the time?
Its possible you have an airlock in the AIO but since you can't see the liquid it make it difficult to confirm. Could try leaning/moving/turnover machine to try get any potential air locks out or in a more desirable place. (I had to with mine, although not quite the same as your cooler)

Do you have many other case fans? Its also recommended to get some active cooling for the VRMs like a couple of 60mm fans or whatever you can direct towards that area.

If you still think its the cooler or just want a new one, do you have a limited budget and do you have enough space for a big rad/heatsink?

It's either the cooler or the PSU, with the rad only being 'warm' when stress testing I need to reseat it. I have enough room yes. I haven't got extra fans yet, I plan to buy 2 this month.

^Given the pic you showed me, it looks seated correctly, screwed down properly etc. I don't know about AIO coolers, but guessing the rad should be hot when strss testing correct?

Thanks.

I need to start playing with the FSB and see if i can beat your score as I've managed to get to 5.2Ghz on turbo, but not sure it's completely stable.

cinebench should run even if your overclock is not stable but if your running it in realtime its will freeze while doing it till its finish, so its best to run it normal the 1st time, 2nd time close all programs then run in realtime as will give you around 5-10 points

I stress tested after re-seating the cooler, I crashed at these temps.... I don't think the cooler is the issue here. thoughts?
