AMD - How To Overclock The Official Way Using Afterburner + Step By Step Overclocking Guide + Comple

Do you need these steps if you just use Catalyst for overclocking, and Afterburner just for in-game temp monitoring? My system is a 7970 crossfire, and I'm happy with going for a moderate boost at stock voltage.

You don't need to use the DLL, nor do you need to perform the /xcl step as this step just extends the overlcocking limits.

All the other steps are still relevant though, they basically just tell you how to cleanly install drivers+caps as well as Afterburner.

Thank you very much LtMatt your guide was perfectoooooo

Big thumbs up man

Thanks man. ;)

Sorry for the stupid question but if starting from a fresh windows 7 install I assume you miss out steps 6-9?

Thanks for taking the time to do this guide.. Very helpful

Thanks and yes, Kralnor answered all the questions. :)

Thanks again Matt, this was very helpful on Monday. :)

It's not a good clocker, highest clock I can get is 1220 MHz @1.3v

How much was the lighting Mike?

Are you satisfied with it or wishing you bad a better clocker?

1220 is not bad imo, you could probably settle on 1200 max and keep temps nice and low. I've gone back to 1094 atm and even this seems like overkill.

It was £360, Today Only deal last Friday. Bit of an indulgence. :)

I'm very happy with it, it would have been nice to get a bit more from it but it's giving me plenty tbh.

Also getting a bigger performance gain from my 6950 than I thought I would, the cooler on the lighting really is fantastic, cooler and quieter than the TFIII that was on my 6950.

Finally got around to giving this another try (no success), at step 10. is AB supposed to ask you to restart the system? I don't get that prompt.

Also when I run AB it asks me to download the exact file again claiming the beta is out of date although software versions are the same.

After going through these steps I have managed to clock my 7950 to a core of 1100 at a voltage of 1156. I have also move the power limit to 20%.

Am I on the right track or completely off. Also I am struggling to get 1200 on the core and have been to scared to increase the voltage any more.

haven't touched memory clock yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Same deal here on both accounts. I think being prompted to update despite having the latest version is a bug in 2.2.5 (or maybe just in beta 1).

AB does work fine for me though, for reference I'm using a Club3D 7850 1GB RoyalQueen .

Yes AB should request a restart.

I also got the message to update AB, I just clicked cancel and it worked fine. :) Not sure why that message comes up asking you to download the same version again.

I'm still having issues with my idle clocks being too high, and I'm wondering if it's related to AB or the drivers.

yesterday my pc crashed with some amd related message, and when it rebooted my idle clocks were where they should be (300/150) and my overclock was working too. Today, I boot up and I'm idling at 60C because my clocks are stuck at 500/1350 at full voltage!

Do you have more than one monitor?
