AMD Launches Three Kaveri APU SKUs in February 2014 – Feature Set For A10 and A8 APUs Detailed

"However, there are a few issues we have with the A-series line in general. First, while the gaming performance is better than Intel, it is only better if you are using integrated graphics. As soon as you add a discrete video card, an equivalently priced Intel-based system is going to give you overall better performance in most games. And while the gaming performance is very good for integrated graphics, if you consider yourself even a moderate gamer you likely would want to invest in a discrete video card."

Erm what's the point of these new CPUs? Are they meant to be aimed at Mobile gaming?

Depends entirely on the price, I expect to be a little disappointed, but if it came in cheaper than i5 (So, i3 price point) then it'd be better with a discrete GPU too.

But chances are it's coming nigh on locked i5 pricing.

OcUK does not stock any of the decent ones and the only one they stock is an MSI which will not work with Kaveri.

The motherboards you need to look for are the ASRock FM2A88X-ITX+ and the Gigabyte GA-F2A88XN-WIFI.

I got the Gigabyte 85-ITX WiFi (from OC's) with my 6800k and that's very good (running 2400mhz ram), i'm hoping once the NDA is up, then they'll have the Gigabyte board you've mentioned available.

Not true.
Once HSA is fully implemented on this APU it will increase GPU efficiency considerably.
If HSA gives the considerable performace gain shown in Adobe software, for example, then this increase will also carry over to any AMD attached GPU.

So imagine a Kaveri machine with a HD 7990 installed. A video editors dream!!

What about a Kaveri with a GTX680?

Expert reviews weren't to impressed with the A8 7600, and the HD 7850K seems overpriced for what it is.. Oh well, hopefully future price cuts and maybe a refresh will make Kaveri a bit more exciting.. Will hang on to our 5800K until then..

At the present time we’re underwhelmed by the performance of the A8-7600 and cannot recommend it over a processor such as the Intel Core i3-3220. We hope this changes. We’d love to see the A8-7600 operating at its full potential, but until then we’d rather buy a Richland processor such as the A10-6800K and an FM2+ motherboard then upgrade to a Kaveri processor such as the A8-7600 or A10-7850K at a later date.
