AMD Launches Three Kaveri APU SKUs in February 2014 – Feature Set For A10 and A8 APUs Detailed

Have ordered a 7850K & a AsRock 88x mITX motherboard.
(to go with 2133DDR3, M500 240GB ssd, Antek ISK 300-150).

Lets see how it performs at home..

Yep, ordered my a7850k & gigabyte 88-itx wifi...luckily I still got the 6800k as I'll need it to load the new bios.
Gunna throw my 2400mhz ram into it as well...hopefully will get it running by weekend (need to swap around some SSD's)

Thanks, well that's not good. Don't know whether to upgrade now and sell the 7770 too.

Wait for Mantle.

I tell you what I find odd.. AMD are supposed to be bundling BF4 with some of these APUs, yet, none of them are powerful enough using Direct X to even produce acceptable frame rates on the lowest settings.

That alone fills me with wonder.. Why bundle a game that doesn't even run, unless they know something we don't.

The Kaveri IGP solution does provide enough punch.
It's just because it's hobbled with bandwidth really :(

I'd have somewhat hoped for an Iris Pro comparison to the A10.
I have no doubts that Intels Iris Pro successor, as inefficient as it is will generally post better results than the IGP in Kaveri, hell, I'd be surprised if it Iris Pro was far behind as it is.

Iris Pro is way overhyped.Check the Anandtech review of the A10. It has the desktop Core i7 4770R. Considering it is over 300mm2 in size with the l4 cache, has a more powerful cpu ( with 8 threads too) it looks meh. In only one game is it any faster than even the 45w A8 let alone the A10. It is over £200 too and kaveri with much less bandwidth and cheaper too, still seems a better bet IMHO. On top of this you can avoid Intel drivers. It would not surprise me if AMD and Nvidia have better latency too.

It won't run at 1080p, but 720p is acceptable (see Stulid's review thread).

The main issue is that DICE have failed to get Mantle up and running in time for Kaveri's launch. I'll bet we get 1080p BF4 when that's active.

The main issue is the memory architecture of gddr5 was taken away .
I can't see mantle replacing that sorry.

I have been wondering the same thing, there is something we ain't been told yet, prehap the figure quoted for Mantle's performance is fictitious, & it will actually far better than they are actually saying.
Maybe there is something else in Mantle that unlocks hidden performance in AMD cpu's & graphic cards.

Just have to wait until 28th January, & we might have a clearer picture of things.

I remember reading a post/link last year that the Kaveri would vastly outperform the 6800k's gpu with just 1600mhz RAM...what happened there? (I don't think it was April 1st!)

To be fair, in Anandtech's review the 7850k outperforms the 6800k by around 20% or more on the highest game settings in all their tested games bar F1 2013 (6800k wins at low settings due to higher CPU frequency not being cancelled out by Steamroller CPU advances).

Of course, those games are all unplayable at highest settings...

Bandwidth is a problem. 7850k basically has a 7750 on board, but it's the DDR3 version so massively bandwidth limited. Even the 7730 (matching the 7700k's IGP) is heavily bandwidth constrained in DDR3 form;

I wonder if it would be possible in near future that AMD could fit 2-3GB of GDDR5 mem in the APU?

...or would AMD be afraid of upsetting memory manufacturers?

I think we're more likely to see some form of on-package memory solution arising from the semi-custom side of AMD. Basically something like the Xbone, Jaguar [bloodline] cores rather than these larger desktop models, so they can slot in to small form factors. It would need a third party to part finance the development, and have an agreement in place that AMD can use the tech in retail (they can't sell Xbone CPUs outside of MS)
