AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

So you read Ampere is 40% rasterisation and 4x RT over Turing and you don't bat an eyelid. You read Big Navi is 60% over 2080 Ti and it's "choo choo" hype train?

I fail to see why you think the latter is "choo choo hype train". The 2080 Ti was only 35-40% ish faster than the 5700 XT with only 40 RDNA 1 CUs.
There appears to be plenty of time to build a full head of steam.

Maybe you're taking things a little too seriously.....

AMD are pushing "Navi 2X" for a reason, they're going for 2x performance per watt for RDNA 2. If they get it, all RDNA 2 cards would be double the performance per watt of their RDNA 1 equivalents.

Double perf/watt unfortunately rarely translates in double the real world performance compared to the old card. In fact I can't think of any examples

If you optimize graphics settings you can easily get 4k/60fps with a 5700xt on modern games. Whats impressive about that? By christmas or early 2021 you'll be able to do that with a £200 gpu. Plus nothing looks like next gen on that spiderman game.

Well we already know the PS5's GPU is not very impressive at all. The rest of the system is fantastic but its let down by it's GPU.

Thats a pretty bold statement. Why is it so lackluster then, asking as its not even out yet and the jury has already passed its judgement?

No "we" don't, don't use "we" when it’s just you, it's just speculation to support your narrative. I know you enjoy stirring people up but it’s just getting a little bit desperate now! ;)

As far as I'm aware NVIDIA has never put of GPU in a console, if they did the console would have to be £1000 as the GPU would be so expensive, also they don't produce CPUs so I understand why Sony/MS have gone with AMD again. It would dilute their brand ethos of providing perceived bleeding edge performance for prices to match!

Nvidia were in OG Xbox and PS3. Then MS and Sony vowed never to work with them again. Now they are also in the Switch.

@Grim5 Jensen, I know it's you. Go home man. Enjoy a cold beer and relaxe. We get it, you are afraid of the competition and would prefer green to be our new overlord. This rest of us really don't feel this way, we would prefer our new overlord to be a mix of green, red, and blue. So this damage control mode you are in isn't really working for you as we see right trough it. You've done well, made a name for yourself, albeit not always a good one, now it's time to let go and let the other kids have some fun. Your holding back innovation with your shady business practices. Enjoy that beer.

But why say that Nvidia hasn't had hardware inside a mainstream console

So the best selling console right now the switch isn't a mainstream console? Uh huh

It's currently the best selling console as Xbox and PS4 are pretty much EOL, it provides a very different offering to Xbox/PS4, it hardly a GFX powerhouse is it compared to the other consoles.

I should have maybe been more explicit and said I was only really referring to Xbox/PS4, do you expect Switch to remain on top when PS5/Xbox X are released?

Why do you think both Sony/MS didn't select NVIDIA to power their next consoles, surely if it the best the 3080 is so good then it was a "no brainer"?

To be fair here for a minute, a console, no matter how lackluster the performance is, is still a console. That said, I would classify the switch as a handheld with docking mode and not a console cause that is how most people use it from what i've gathered.

Before we derail to be the new console thread, lets just go back to the GPU mentioned in said console(s) and how it is no patch on nvidia discrete.

Agreed but that's why I said "I should have maybe been more explicit and said I was only really referring to Xbox/PS4"
