I'm amazed at the spending going on - and wondering how many are doing it on credit that is going to come crashing down. I work in distribution/logistics and the demand for consumer goods is not showing any sign of slowing down with this situation it is crazy - some seem to be spending like they expect the world to end tomorrow.
I work on a port unloading ships and we are busier than ever, so people are not changing their buying habits and the fact that the government are doing 95% mortgages for new buyers is a worry. Jobs are being lost everywhere and whilst I follow the YOLO theory, getting a GPU on credit isn't something I would ever do.

If the pricing of the cpus is anything to go by, expect the prices to be higher. Especially if they now have RT ability.
Yes unfortunately. Lisa Su did same some time ago that they no longer wanted to be known as the cheap brand (or something to that extent). I guess she has looked and thought, "if you can't beat them, join them" :(

Man!!! Some of you guys need to meet up and get drunk and realise we all like PC gaming regardless of what GPU we have. I am almost 50 years old (and feel it) and love the banter but petty digging is childish. Surely we all want a good competitive market? NVidia are great cards, AMD are great cards. I personally would love to see the top AMD card beating the 3090 and doing so in RT. If it costs as much as the 3090, so be it but at least competition is back.

That's not going to happen. If Big Navi was your employee he'd have started job hunting by now. :D

But then you're probably looking at $899 card that matches the 3090 in non RT performance.
Yea, NVidia have the head start and know what is what (or should do by now) but a 3090 matching card for a good price would be awesome. I personally am a massive proponent of RT and was the reason for me buying the 2080Ti and whilst others slate RT, I am personally massively impressed with how it works in games like Control and Exodus.

My boss at work threw up a last minute server rack as we needed to move some apps and storage quickly. I had to block out the part where he was impressed with Xeon and the intel parts, he is genuinely stuck in the past thinking I was going to be amazed with what he was coming out with lol.
Quite a few people I know who work in shipping are now working from home and the companies supplied laptops for them. I can see this becoming a permanent thing also, as less overheads means more revenue.

Sorry off topic!

Well, considering that RTX is an nVidia 'thing' I would certainly hope they win.

As for Ray Tracing, which is what I assume you actually meant, then we don't know for sure but it looks like AMD will be behind.

But if you look at how many people said RT was great on 2080ti and AMD is ahead of this, I guess you could argue the performance will be good enough :p
You make a valid point and being a 2080Ti owner, I am happy with the performance of RT in games. I am more of a gfx whore over frame rates though.

Same here, that is why I could never figure out why you was happy with 1440p (apart from thinking you either need to go spec savers or some people just see differently) until you told us all you sit 4 feet away from you monitor. I sit less than half that distance so 2160p makes a huge difference to image quality at that distance :D
Yea, I don't sit close but will spot stutter/judder right away. Plus I do think it is time for me to go to specsavers, as I had to make the text bigger on forums and news feeds :D

Not the only one Im afraid, my eyes are terrible, concentration slipping. I do spend a lot of the day at the screen though for day job and gonna have to concede to blocky large text and dark backgrounds - its taken its toll on the old body now.
At 50 years young, I don't mind admitting it is time to make the visit. Plus I sit 150ft ish up a crane and need to see properly for that.

50yrs pfft.....youngsters! 63yrs young and still into this ****. I would have to say Amd HAVE to be cheaper, even if near or better performance purely because they have been nowhere for years and they must work and work to retake the crown and that means being competitive with value and performance. I hope they are back as I cannot stand the arrogance of Nvidia and would dearly like them beaten on all levels and maybe bring some humility to them. Fingers crossed Amd produce the goods and at a reasonable price as I have stated previously I will not buy if too expensive as I will not buy Nvidia at their current pricing, not that I can buy Nvidia anyway. Hope Amd dont **** it up.
Great to see the old folks know how to use a PC :D

The hardest bit for AMD is winning NVidia buyers, purely because they have been so far behind for so long, it will take a couple of gens at least to get hardened NVidia buyers on to AMD.

Id like to know how anyone knows the performance of the 6900 when only AMD have this card and no AIBs? lol... a lot of leaks are just speculation and rubbish, as i much as i detest his voice, Paul from RGT seems to have somewhat a better hit than miss ration on info
Quite correct and only AMD know what is what at present. I do love a 'leak' though and it gives good talking points and our own speculation is always good reading regardless of how close or far.

Hopefully AMD have decent drivers and the card is on par with the 3080 at least. Price is important of course but I feel the days of a £400 GPU that is the fastest out are long gone.
