AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

Gonna be interesting waiting to see especially if Nvidia get a trickle of HBM, I know money talks but contracts talk better.;)

Get in first with genuine performance increase, none of this 30% improvement pish and charge accordingly and AMD will claw some back.

Usual suspects will purchase AMD though and dump them when Nvidia do their marketing genius that leaves you ending up on slower tech.

the only problem is, DM's posts could be made without any insults thrown in, yet the vast majority of the time he feels he has to start off by insulting whoever it was he is replying to before then actually trying to pitch in with his opinion

the other thing is that he gets stuff wrong just as much as anyone else, then says that he never said something, even when you find that quote and show him what he actually said, he then just disappears off the site for a week and hopes no one remembers the next time he pops in to insult someone

I can't think of the last time DM made a post that couldn't have been at least half the length and still contained the same information

Sorry but that is complete nonsense, look at the posts I made yesterday. I posted both without any real insults, but specifically my initial posts were on topic and only gave back after certain people had a go at my posts. Second I posted on the current topic of the thread that other people were talking about. In both specific threads this happened Gregster or Kaap instantly posted back having a go at my post or me, or both. This happens every single time, the instigator is always the same.

Even just below your post once again, despite the fact that Gregster jumped into a thread attacking a post I made sarcastically saying everything Nvidia do is bad, when I'd posted to say mock ups/dev kits without final hardware is pretty much standard, he decides to make a jokey post explaining it away as a bad day for me yesterday. Nope, it was still Gregster who 'started it' by needlessly having a go at one of my posts as he ALWAYS does. THen Kaap decided to pile on about that post, again, as he always does.

In this thread once again Kaap decided to have a direct go at me by insisting I was wrong about HBM1 when everything I said was accurate, then insisting that Nvidia rumours were fact and pushing the idea comparable AMD rumours were terrible, again denouncing an AMD thread for having no real information while acting like the same rumours about Pascal were fact. He was in here attempting to wind people up, having a go at AMD then having a go at posters who pointed this out to him.

No, I didn't get out on the wrong side of bed yesterday or today, I defended my legitimate posts against a couple of people who spend their day attacking other peoples posts, nothing more or less.

Today, both you and Gregster have put the boot in, inaccurately, for no reason at all..... again.

Some people really need to chill out a bit. We have nothing set or said by AMD or Nvidia, nothing but speculation and nothing but some good ol fashioned gossip. I love the chit chat and speculation but the insults and "usual suspects" comments are silly. It is supposed to be a fun thing, not a religion lol.

:D

Personal experience and it has also been mentioned on the net by other people.

Out of the 4 cards I started with I had to RMA 2 of them with HBM memory problems running at stock.

As to getting my 4 watercooled Fury Xs running, at stock volts they can all do 1150/500 and all 4 together 1140/500.

With overvolting they can run 1170/500 4 up and even higher individually. Unfortunately like other people have found with overvolting the performance tanks and is worse than using stock volts.

Thanks Kaapstad, appreciate the feedback. First I've heard of HBM being unreliable which is why I asked.

Like any brand new tech HBM's first iteration is perhaps not great, and someone's got to bite the proverbial bullet and introduce it.

lessons learned and HBM2 i'm sure will be much better.

Probably a bit early to write it off as unreliable, it is only gen 1 after all.

Although I do wonder how much money will be invested in it, if only GPU companies are buying...

Exactly mate, speculation is part of the build up. Bit of friendly banter makes it fun. No need for peeps to get snarky with each other over it.

Roll on the new tech, sooner the better lol.

What kind of namby-pamby talk is that?!

MY UNRELEASED GPU WITH NO INFORMATION IS BETTER THAN YOUR UNRELEASED GPU WITH NO INFORMATION END OF!!!!!1111!

Not sure you'll get that. Not even a 980/ti will do 60 FPS at 1080p consistently in all games at max settings. You still get drops in some games (eg Fallout 4, a 980ti can drop to 30-40 FPS at 1080p).

My budget is also £250 ish, and I'm just hoping for rock steady 60 FPS at 1080p (finally).

True, but that's not because the 980ti isn't potent enough, it's a software problem. Plenty of great games that run smooth as butter and look gorgeous out there (e.g. any Dice game). Just don't expect it from Bethesda/Ubish-t and such.

semiaccurate article

Polaris rocks, cold, efficient with a whole new gpu tech behind the cards.
The future is brighter with AMD Polaris
Your games will look better sound better and play better than ever with HDR and 1.3 displayport and combine that with the hardware power efficiency Polaris brings and the new improved memory footprint, its going to be legendary.

TLDR AMD's new leadership and reorganisation is bearing immediate fruit. What was Arctic Islands has seen significant redesign and improvement recently, and become 'Polaris'. They will be out significantly ahead of NVIDIA. Architectural changes most significant move since VLIW4 to GCN. Charlie seems pretty bullish if not out right excited about it.
