AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

AMD must have costs and yields well under control, and expect no production constraints at all (i.e. can make however many the market demands) .....

... looks very likely PS4k will have a full P10, which is surprisingly excellent, especially as it's expected this autumn.

Wouldn't surprise me if the P10 is their biggest selling high performance desktop gpu design ever. Apple and Sony will swallow countless millions alone.

Hopefully that will reflect in their finance sheets ;)

At the very least it will be reflected in revenue. However cost efficient P10 is, it's a much more expensive component than what the PS4 had when released. Also, apple will be putting more expensive higher perf skus further down their product lines due to tdp reductions.

And Nintendo as we hear...

Apple and Sony, well it is good news for AMD, or is it. if they can make enough chips then it is probably good news, of course both those companies will only pay the bear minimum for the components they need (Apple are notorious for squeezing the best deals from their suppliers). If AMD can make enough then it is all rosy, but if it means that the higher paying consumer cannot get the parts, then it might not actually be such a good thing.
Of course if it performs really well, there might be an increase on amounts going to Apple, instead of ??? amount of currant chips they sell them for the Macs, but even if it does perform well it doesn't mean that Apple will suddenly sell massively more Macs, drastically increasing the number purchased.

Hopefully it wont hurt the amounts going to the consumer market so that the cards are available to sell.

i duno there was talk "the new playstation will have double the speed" like it was a big thing, it needs be double the speed just for 1080p :)
i dont think the release is about 4k anyway its about VR, sony has its headset to sell

i doubt AMD will have any trouble supplying PC and console market with 14nm or any stock issue for that matter, since they are using 2 samsung and globalF, who have an agreement for sharing 14nm, they both basicaly have the ability to produce the exact same chip.

And Nintendo as we hear...

It sounds like Nintendo are finally making good decisions ... but I still expect them to have a custom chip. Probably MS too.

Though Nintendo will definitely be Polaris based. Suppose there's a chance of MS being Vega or Navi or something in between as they've been hinting at only wanting a 'major' upgrade later ... I assume their plan is to wait for a while and assess what Sony & Nintendo come up with, then specify something faster or equally powerful and cheaper / better packaged.

Anyone have anything positive to say about AMD's new Console and possible Apple deals?

Everytime someone starts something with something positive RE: AMD it quickly descends into utterly ridiculous negative twisting.

Its like some of those bonkers Seeking Alpha contributors heavily invested in Intel and Nvidia have found their way here.

Winning contracts is never a bad thing.
Yes Bru, it was good news for Nvidia, it was good news for Intel, it is good news for AMD.
Consoles @ $100 to $120 to AMD for every unit MS / Sony sold was good news for AMD, it saved their skin.

Yar, looking forward to the new PS4. Will def pick one up if it has a new GPU that is a decent upgrade. My old PS4 will go straight to CEX :P

Surely that can't be right. $100 per console and 100,000,000 consoles sold would be total profit of 10billion just from Sony alone

Probably closer to $20 profit per chip sold IIRC.

For one i don't think they sold anything like 100m units, and, as CAT said there is probably only a <20% margin in it, its still a lot of profit tho.

The most up to date result I could find was they are currently sitting at 36 million but with 100 million achievable within the ps4s lifespan. So if it was $100 per console that's still 3.6billion and that's more than the company is even worth. $20 per console would be 720millon so far. Still nearly half of the company value.

Same thing ^^^

Thats not unreasonable, over the to date life span of the PS4 and XBone AMD have been pulling in an annual revenue of 4 to $5bn, maybe a $bn or two of that every year makes up those consoles.
