AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

They've done it from time to time in previous generations - the 470 came with a big clock reduction over the 480 but overclocked like crazy - 607MHz out the box and most could be turned upto 800MHz with no voltage increase I ran mine most of the time at 840MHz with minimal extra voltage but just before I upgraded I had them stable at 900MHz with extra voltage - albeit with 100% fan speed as I never got around to putting custom cooling on them.

I suspect the 1070 will probably overclock quite well if it is just the same cores as 1080s but with some bits disabled.

I suspect the 1070 will clock a lot higher than the reference 1080 cards because with the disabled cores it will draw less power and run cooler.

The lower boost clock is certainly an artificial limitation to increase performance delta and ensure the lowest power-heat-noise levels.

Sounds like BS to me, you can already get 7 and 8ghz gddr 5, now if it was clocked at 10 - 12 then it would more than likely be gddr5x

Almost certainly only gddr5, but even if it was X it is irrelevant if they are clocking them so low to get 7 Gbps and 224 GB/s bandwidth, which is really the only thing that matters. It could be HBM2 memory but if the 224 GB/s then that is what the card gets.

The rest of the info is the same as what was posted yesterday. Strongly suggest AMD have worked on getting real-world performance up instead of theoretical compute performance.

All I know is that my 980M laptop runs several Gameworks titles better than my 390X desktop system does, hence why I'll be getting a 1080 on release. Plus the incredible power efficiency is also very desirable, as I'll be moving to a smaller form factor case at the same time.

Hilarious. That's exactly what Nvidia want. They deliberately break games so AMD cards perform poorly on them. It might fool you but not me. The very reason they do this is why I will NOT be buying a 1080 or indeed any Nvidia card in the near future. Call me an AMD fan boy if you will. But at least I'm doing it because I value their business practices, not get suckered in for shiny marketing. (not to mention my card is faster and cheaper than a 980). That's just a bonus for me. I would rather support an underdog, honest company than a greasy, underhand tactic dog like Nvidia.

Sorry for double post.

I have to fully agree with you on this. I think for me the 'founders edition' nonsense is the final straw.

NEWS JUST IN!

Amd will be releasing the 'Super Early Adopters edition' for polaris parts. You get spinny rims, LED's, a lolipop, a shiny gold sticker and a free moth to put in your wallet.

Think someone should make a 'safe space' for benny. Anyways hope Polaris comes with could crossfire support as that could make them killer buys, like when they launched the 4 series if I recall correctly.
