AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

Its getting close, only 3 days left to trash talk before we know one way or the other.

Expect more of it in the coming two days.

Sour grapes or honest reporting?

To be honest it would not surprise me in the least if AMD/RTG have totally screwed up with Polaris. It's essentialy what they do lol :D

In the simplest terms AMD has created a product that runs hotter and slower than its competition's new architecture by a potentially significant margin.

We will see soon enough but i think there are quite a lot of supporting rumors. Nothing solid I and I sure hope I am wrong.

Looks like another month to wait to me going off the NDA pic

I hope I dont regret investing in Freesync, if what HardOCP are saying has any truth its very concerning plus the rumours that Polaris is low end only I may be stuck with my 290X for a while yet

But But But.... Kyle has his super secrete insiders.

Well after 18 or so years you'd assume he does know quite a lot of people inside the tech companies. You seem very sure this is all bs, and if it is this article will bite him in the ass, but there's the possibility there's something to it.

It does definately read along the lines of "I didn't want to go anywy because AMD and Polaris sucks". Though AMDs track record makes it all seem so plausible.

On that plausible aspect - it is easy when you have a grudge to fall foul of confirmation bias and see every bit of smoke as a fire especially if you are looking for information to build a case.

None the less there is somewhat of a cloud building not just in respect to H that AMD would be wise to get out in front of and get more information out there whether it is good news or bad.

You mean when AMD actually commented that the cards were not delayed?? Are we not going around in circles here??

Polaris isn't low end only. The rumours and official AMD statements tlak about mainstream (and low end for Polaris 11). Mainstream means not high end, AMD have made it very clear about market share and price points. I expect you'll get a card a little faster than a 2990x that uses less power, runs cooler and has a few extra features like the Nvidia single-pass multi-projection. for VR. Nothing I have seen anywhere remotely points to anything significantly faster to compete with the 1080.

Not so much insiders, as outsiders. people who left AMD and know a thing or 2.

Sites like glassdoor kind of make lies of what H is claiming - those kind of people would be straight to places like that no holds barred (within the realms of any potential repercussions due to NDAs). Largely the employee and ex-exmployee gripes are about lack of clear strategic vision going forward which I think we can all agree with.

You mean when AMD actually commented that the cards were not delayed?? Are we not going around in circles here??

That is just one aspect of many and even then it was little more than a canned statement that sounded a bit weak (relatively speaking) either way.

Hmm i had to look again at it, yes your right, its Jun 31'st.

No one in their right mind would tell anyone who has public outbursts like that with apparently extremely sensitive information; anything, they would be risking career suicide.

He's a fraud, a mentally unbalanced one at that.

So basically people who have nothing to do with any of the current projects as they would be still under NDA not to discuss them.

Being under NDA doesn't stop you speaking about things that aren't specifically covered by the NDA. And people under NDA leak information all the time, that is why we see all these leaks about 1080 performance, size, memory etc months before release.

Hopefully that's what will happen on the 1st. Every leak i have seen suggests the clocks are getting higher but no where near where NV are. That does not mean Polaris needs these clocks to compete in it's segment though. It would be nice to have them on tap though.

There is far to much smoke and mirrors to guessing about Gpu performance before release. Pascal was way easier than Maxwell due to it being very similar in design. Polaris is more like Maxwell as it's new.

Which would be things regarding performance, etc and certain technical details about the projects. These are the very things the competition would want to know about.

Plus he is the only one talking about problems, which seems to be timed conveniently with him not getting an invite. Most of the leaks about cards have come from Chinese forums like Chiphell, etc.

AMD has said months ago roughly what time of the year they are releasing the cards at and roughly what markets they are attacking.

Polaris 10 rumours low to mid range sorry, not just low end. I'm looking for upper mid range so what ever sits around the 290/390 to Fury space with the intention of running 1440P max Ultra settings at 100FPS or above

My 290X manages average 60FPS at those settings in most games but it dips to often and is affecting my games

Cool and quiet is another goal, my 290X is AIO cooled and I want the AIO out of my system, VR doesnt interest me at the moment

All that for max budget of £350 please, maybe I'm dreaming :o

Good point, some of the speculation from others, like wccf could be deliberate to try and push AMD for real information.

They would not be so wrong to do it, AMD really do need to communicate more with their interested parties.

they conduct themselves with this wall of silence all the time, its no indication of anything right or wrong with AMD, the did the same thing with the 290X, complete silence while everyone predicted there was no way AMD could manage anything like matching the GTX Titan.
When AMD did eventually reveal what they had it was more than a match.
the same card is now trading blows with the GTX 980 3 years on.

Its all rumour mongering and sites like Anandtech and PCPER,etc don't seem to be having all these problems. Remember,PCPER developed FCAT with Nvidia which highlighted problems with AMD framepacing?? AMD has not decided to cut them off,for that negative PR??

Polaris seems to be confirmed to be a 232mm2 die. Compare that to AMD Pitcairn which was 212mm2 and in the HD7870. Barts XT was around 255mm2 and in the HD6870.

It seems HardOCP is trying to pump up the performance of Polaris 10 so they can paint it as a fail.

Anybody who applies any level of commonsense would see this is a more mainstream part.

The last Chinese leak which detailed performance said it was around R9 390X level.

Edit!!

If you look at the last mainstream parts:
1.)The HD6870 was around 10% slower than an HD5870
2.)The HD7870 was around 10% faster than an HD6970

If a Polaris 10 is around 10% slower than a Fury X at 1080P,it would be around R9 390X level:
