AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

I can see it now, an hour on the wholey uninspiring Bristol ridge APU's, and then a quick mention that they have Polaris coming out latter in the year. :(

about the 31th May AMD webcast, i hope they dont put koduri and lisa su on stage again, they are way too awkward to entertain ppl, roy and huddy should do it, or just hire someone specificaly for the occasion.

Yeah koduri is an incredible engineer but like most scientifically minded geniuses he has the charisma of a lettuce.

Roy or Huddy is much more personable.

Polaris isn't aimed at the top end. Anyway what do you need a card like the 1080 for? Current gpu not cutting it already?

As I've mentioned in other threads I'm not in a hurry as my card is handling everything fine but when I go 3440x1440 I will need something with more than 4 gb's of memory and I'll need more grunt as well.

I'm not considering Polaris but if it's fastest chip is as far behind GP104 as it seems what does that mean for Vega? I'm looking forward to Vega and hoping that can manage better than 1080 levels of performance without a stupid price tag. But if not I'll end up tied to Nvidia for some time as I'll end up with a G-sync panel.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

That dry throat thing he does really gets irritating after a few minutes. Unless they're going to hook him up intravenously to a massive tanker full of water he should talk less.

Its better than monotone rambling. :)

Don't get me wrong i like the guy, would love to have a drink with him and talk tech but for most people they just switch off when he speaks.

I suppose one of the problems for Polaris on forums like this, is that a good number of us already have cards that are in the 390/970 and up bracket, and even those with 380/960's probably wouldn't look at this as a good enough upgrade.

Disclaimer: This post is only relevant if Polaris comes in at 390/X performance.:)

Exactly this, i'm beating an already squashed Spider here but 'if' Polaris 10 is just a "more power efficient 970/80/390/X" i'm not going to be buying anything from AMD.
How many 970/390 sold in the last couple of years? the answer to that is the answer to how many potential customers AMD will be guaranteed to lose and not gain.

I think a few people would never recover if he walked out on stage and started his salesman pitch with an AMD GPU hah.

It'd be the most interesting thing to watch since youtube was invented.

Thinking about it, AMD could do with their own sexy leather jacket man Jens clone, just as the public figure.

Exactly. Polaris is going o have to offer something more if AMD truly want to gain a large amount of marketshare, or at least give the huge swathes of people with 970's,980's,390's etc something to upgrade from.

If thats the case then people with cards even 2 gens old, there wont be any point in upgrading

Personally none of what I seen impress me when talking to a crowd yet.
to tense, not relaxed enough and lack a connection to the audience.
steve Jobs was great doing that.

If AMD can match or beat Fury at half the Fury cost, then it will be fine.

But most of us really will be more interested in Vega which will be coming a bit later.

Ideally Polaris XT should be 1070 performance for £250. They will fly of the shelves if AMD can manage that.

Right.

koduri is not a salesman.
I understand AMD desire to explain the product and they may want to use their top engineer to do that, but actually there wrong.

What they need is a charismatic indervidual who can explain what it does but above all sell it.
