Add a 17% memory overclock on top of that.
You can't state the reference one is 1200mhz as The reference 980ti boost clock is not stated. They vary and it could be almost anything, could be 1000mhz for all we know The only figures they give are for the AIB MSI and that is 6% core + 17% memory with an 11% gain.
Can we get off this now for the sake of our sanity?
If you used the Kingpin for what it is designed for (LN2), you would see a much better clocking card. Running a kingpin on air is fine but if you want 2000Mhz+ clocks, you will need LN2 and this then would be a good overclocking card.

And to make it fair, the Fury X also overclocks much better on LN2 with 1450Mhz and 1000Mhz on the memory

One would need to use the card in the right capacity to take advantage of the KPEs level of engineering. Also Maxwell as an architecture does not respond well to voltage and as such most if not all cards will hit a limitation around 1500mhz to 1600mhz or not far short of this. In order to push past this the GPU needs to be ran at sub zero temperatures.
This has even been pointed out by Vince multiple times when speaking about the similarity between one GPU to the next. Lower ambient temperatures just aren't enough, this is through no fault of EVGA or the cards engineering. If the proper research is done these types of things (disappointment) can be avoided.

It's so hard being Pc gaming enthusiasts, we just have to hope that polaris will keep our chiseled abs and stunning features really really, really really ridiculously good looking.
Polaris should make NVidia look a lot leaner and more chiselled, they are probably going to lose a lot of market share.
Anyone with an NVidia card at the moment should be careful what they say on these forums as this time next year they could be using a Polaris based card.![]()

Polaris will use the FinFET manufacturing process, meaning a shrink down to 14nm. This should bring a marked improvement in power efficiency; something that is seen to be a key feature of the Polaris range. As in current high-end Radeon R9 cards, newer Polaris-based models will feature the performance enhancing GCN (Graphics Core Next) architecture, but this time utilising a 4th generation design which boasts features such as a primitive discard accelerator, hardware scheduler, instruction pre-fetch, improved shader efficiency, and memory compression.
Display technologies have also been given some attention, with Polaris supporting capabilities for HDMI 2.0a, DisplayPort 1.3, and 4K h.265 encode/decode.
There is some speculation around how memory will work, as reports have stated that Polaris will incorporate both GDDR5 and High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products. This led Anandtech to draw the conclusion that the GDDR5 cards would be the lower end, more cost-effective models, with HBM reserved for more demanding use-cases. This makes a good deal of sense, as would a similar theory whereby AMD splits production of the Polaris range across two different fabrication plants, utilising the 14nm process for some and a 16nm for others. These theories, of course, remain highly speculative, but hopefully there will be some clearer definition as the release date draws nearer.

AMD did recently provide a live demonstration of a new Polaris-based graphics card, where it faced off against an Nvidia GeForce 950 variant, both seated in identical Core i7 systems running Star Wars Battlefront at 1080p on medium settings. Throughout the demonstration the two cards were hooked up to power meters, and the results were interesting. While the Nvidia card returned a respectable average performance/watt rating of 150w, the Polaris clocked a very impressive 88w, illustrating the potential energy efficiency that the next generation brings. It’s early days of course, and we’ll only know the accuracy of these figures when we can do some real world testing of our own, but so far AMD’s Polaris is shaping up very nicely indeed.
Exciting stuff, 88W!!! Looks like this year is going to be a good one for both AMD and Nvidia with those energy savings.
