AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

Hi eveyone,

I have been following this thread for a while now. :D (nice looking clocks around here)

As you see in my sig my DFI 790FXB is on its way out which sucks. I already have a PII x2 555 ready but cant use it as my bios is out of date and I cant flash it even though I have tried the 3 methods on Win7 and XP

So to join this thread properly I need a new Mobo and Ram so I can beast the X2 :p

I have an interest in http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=3417

I know people will say go for the Crosshair IV but i was wondering if any one has used this?

And for the ram I was thinking of some Corsair C8 BEMP 1.5v kit CMP4GX3M2B1600C8 as its for the AMD systems. Any good?

I am hoping to buy the mobo and ram at the end of the month, everything else in my system is all good and cooling is spot on:)

I haven't been in here for a while because of having to rma my motherboard.
Since ive upgraded my cooling to include the chipset i decided to try and see the highest i could get a screeny at, it doesnt seem to want to post at 4.4 and im not going to put any more volts through it just yet.

Managed to get my [email protected] and CPU-NB [email protected] with Cool 'n' Quiet off and CPU Smart Fan Control off as well so i have maximium cooling. Idles around 38c-39c and sometimes dips to 35c [but rarely] and loads up to 48c.

FYI: I tried 3.9GHz and 4GHz but i failed and more voltage would mean i go over the recommended 1.5v and CPU-NB wasn't stable at 2.6GHz and if i added more voltage it would have gone over the recommended 1.5v.

Out of curiosity, i've got the overclock, so can i put Cool 'n' Quiet and CPU Smart Fan Control back on? Or is it recommended to keep them off to keep the overclock running stable?

Thanks man, will let you know tomorrow morning. If this runs okay on aircooled i may attempt 4.0ghz tomorrow and see how that goes. Looks promising though at the moment.

Is Prime 95 a freeware? May have to download this for a proper test. But from what i can see it keeps notching just over to the 1.502v line before comin back down to 1.48ish

Ive just unlocked the 4th core on my 720BE, but now no cpu temp monitoring programs work. What else can i use? Edit: after a lot of googling there doesnt seem to be a way, dont think i want to run prime without knowing if my cpu is melting. :(
