AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

I just got an X2 550BE yesterday and have unlocked the 4 cores but am finding temps go up quite a bit with them unlocked, is this normal?

I already asked this next question in the cooling section but I thought this thread would be the best place to ask so...

I believe the AC Freezer 7 won't face towards the rear of the case in AM3 systems and will only point up or down?

Does the Hyper 212 face towards the rear? How about the TX3?

What about the fore-runner of the AC Freezer 7, the AC Freezer 64? Any good and will it face the rear?

I will post some screens when I get my new cooler, right now the stock HSF is limiting me. :)

load temps went up about 20c when i unlocked my 550BE which is currently under a zalman 8700 but about to get something better on it (either the tx3 or an alpenfohn grob clockner which i have sitting here but not decided which one to fit).
the tx3 can be mounted either facing the rear or the top, but i don't know about the 212.

Thanks chipps! :)

I thought I would have a quick try at oc'ing the 2 cores for now, I just tried for 3.6ghz at 1.35v.

I haven't overclocked for about 5 years, lol. Finding my way around the new technology is hard work! Mostly because I want to know everything immediately! :)

How good is this Intel Burn Test? I still need to Prime, right?

i do 10 runs of ibt to check the overclock quickly then prime for a few hours once i am happy that it is stable in ibt, but the zalman isn't letting me go any higher than 3.2 due to the temps atm (its hitting 60c @ 3.2 quad) :(

Thats not a lot better than the stock HSF is it? What CPU volts is that at?

You have an unlocked X2 550BE?

yeah the zalman isn't up to coping with the 550BE unlocked and that is with stock volts.
the second cpuz validator in my sig is the unlocked 550BE.
i'm about to rehouse it in a new case with a better cooler and then i will try for higher clocks with it :)

I am struggling to get mine stable at even 1.45v on 4 cores. :(

I suppose I could play about with the VDDNB, I think I can go up to 1.35 but have only tried 1.20 so far.

Even on stock speed 2 cores I am pretty happy with the speed though, lol. I am not a gamer I just browse and use things like Adobe Lightroom and other photo software and really it is very decent for that usage.

I nearly went for an I5-750 build but I went for the budget option instead and am not dissapointed with the performance.

I am still gonna try and get the 4 cores though! :)

which zalman are you using?

my 555 is running unlocked at 3.85ghz/1.4v under a 9700 at min fan speed, and it can cope with 4ghz @ 1.55v at around half speed.

i'm using the older style 8700 flower cooler.

but only for a couple of days more as once i have some room to work in i will be transfering it into a new case and installing either an alpenfohn grob clockner or a coolermaster hyper 313.

i'm leaning towards the alpenfohn atm but cant find any reviews of it anywhere, but it looks like it should cool very well and the fan is really quiet.

Can someone help me with the CPU/NB voltage. I am unstable at the moment and I think this is what I have to raise but does anyone know what is safe for this voltage and how much I should look to increase it by? Thanks

Guitarman....I am finding that going from 1.2000 to 1.21875 has really helped out, I also have ACC set to "per core" and have the first 2 cores on -2% and the last 2 cores on +2% as I have unlocked the second two cores.

I have an Asus M4A785-TD EVO and 550BE, I don't know how much difference that would make to what settings would work best for you, you might need more or les VDDNB.

Thanks for the help. I have now managed to get 3.6GHz stable with only 0.025v increase for CPU and 0.1v increase for the CPU/NB. Idle temps are 27 and max temps are 45 :D

This is my everyday OC. It's perfect for my needs.. Highest I've gone with this chip was 4ghz at 1.325v. It was still stable after an hour of Prime, but the temps were hitting 57 due to my bad cooler and the general hot weather at the moment.

Temp1 is the 'real' CPU temp I think. At night the load temps don't pass 45 :(

Hi chaps.

Well my new build has settled in nicely (in sig), my room is quite warm and my CPU is idling at 25c at the standard clock of 3.4Ghz.

Now I am a noob overclocker so specifically bought this board as it seemed like a good board to clock with for a beginner.

Any advice? or should I just press the Turbo button and let it clock itself? :)
