AMD R9 290 (Non-X, Pro, etc) Owners Club

Not sure if there's a 290 watercooling thread but this seems as good a place as any to ask this question so here goes;

What sort of temps are you getting idle/load under water?

I'm running a sapphire 290 ref with an EK block and getting around 32c idle/49-51c load.

Between 5-10c cooler if my wife lets me take the pc out of the cupboard haha.

Just curious to see if everything is running as it should be as i've never watercooled before so i don't really know what to expect temp wise.

I'm getting about that, what's you VRM temps at stock and overclocked?

Thanks.

With the settings above I'm seeing 50 degrees core and my Max vrm temp was 63 degrees, is the vrm's temp safe? That seems low enough but I've had nvidia for so long I've not been able to monitor vrm's temps so +1 for AMD!

First problem! I have my monitor set to switch off after 15mins but with this card/AMD drivers it wont wake up again.

Computer doesnt go to sleep its not set up to but pressing the power button didnt shut it down like it should so had to hold it in to kill the machine.

Any suggestions?

See if your card still does it at stock clocks.

If it doesn't then that would point to your overclock being too high for the volts you're using.

Another strange thing I have noticed is that often in games both MSI afterburner and GPU-Z are reading GPU usage yet im sat in game at 60 odd FPS

and its not even for a split instance I can stand there and look around and my GPU usage apparently stays at 0%.

Performance is fine but just odd that is what is being measured.

Ahhhhhhhh! I was getting all ready to praise mantle because I've never played BF4 so smooth before and even the performance graph clearly showed how smooth it was compared to DX and the damn thing crashed on me!

I'm on 14.4 now as they are the last WHQL, Is there any improvement getting the BETA's? Considering I'm playing BF4

In MSI AB setting enable Unified GPU usage monitoring.

You can install latest beta drivers, but tbh the crashing and stutter is a Dice issue at this moment. We need to wait for the patch in September to fix it. You can if you own Premium download the community testing build and this will fix the crash.

Watchdogs is not running great for me on my 290 but I can see it is clocking down quite abit even when I'm not hitting 60 FPS

I'm on 14.4 does anyone know if the beta drivers are better or of a way to disable Powertune by per a game basis?

Use 14.7 RC3, big gains for watchdogs in that driver. Available from AMD's website. If you still get issues with downclocking let me know and ill help you fix it.
