Matt, when you had your 1000W SF PSU, did you have 6 PCI-E cables? I only have 5 in my box, the 5th one has a a 6+2 and 6+2 connection, but also says SLI ready, can i use this cable to power a 290 you reckon?

Yes i only got 5 as well mate, i thought that was odd. You can use the SLI one and it works fine, i used it on my third card until i got the 1300W unit which has extra cables.

I bought a second 290 ages ago, and have been gaming at 120fps merrily. But after all these months I decided to compare my firestrike scores from 1 to 2 cards. I'm looking at this run I just did on 14.7RC3 drivers:

14526 with AMD Radeon R9 290(2x) and Intel Core i7-2600K Processor (@4.3)
Graphics Score 20239
Physics Score 10782
Combined Score 5596

With clock speeds 1050/1250 as thats what I can get em to do without throttling atm. Does this look right to you? My score with one card at 1250/1400 or so was over 10000, even adding one card at stock, you'd expect more than only 4500 added right? :S

You need to look at the graphics score as that will nearly double going from one to two cards.

Your score is also fine for the clocks you are using too.

Use 14.7 RC3, big gains for watchdogs in that driver. Available from AMD's website. If you still get issues with downclocking let me know and ill help you fix it.

Drivers seem better, Still downclocks if I enable V-sync even though its not hitting my refresh rate.

Runs full speed if I disable v-sync but still dont see 100% GPU usage and I'm not seeing any 100% usage on any CPU cores so im not sure why it wouldn't be using all of the GPU available.

This is assuming of course that afterburner is reading GPU usage correctly which it does seem to do in Benchmarks (100%)

Is anyone else getting drop outs while playing BF4 ?....I'm asking as this has only been happening since I have been using the 290 I got ..it also happened when I was using a Tri-x 290 a while back....but it doesn't happen when I use my 780 , is there something I can do to stop the drop outs , or have i been unlucky a 2nd time with another faulty 290.

Or is there something inherently wrong with the 290 Cards ?

well when in game my normal day to day fps are around 160-170 ....yet here and there they for about 1.5 seconds drop down to about 25 fps...this does not happen when using my 780 only when using my 290

Mantle has a dram leak in BF4, introduced with the Dragons Teeth patch. Next time you get fps drops ctrl+alt+tab and check dram usage. If it is past 3.5gb, you know you're suffering from it. Happens to me too, Dice are aware of it. Hope they fix it in the next patch. For now I'm slumming it on DX11. :o
