AMD R9 290 (Non-X, Pro, etc) Owners Club

I'm getting black screen issues on my new powercolor :(. It's always at low loads e.g. Web browsing and never in games. Looking to RMA unless there is a way to fix. I'm using beta drivers.

Edit: zero over clocking by me

Did a driver clean up and went back to 14.4 and all is good now, it was fine on the betas until yesterday ?

The day before yesterday i had my first black screen, i wasn't doing anything unusual and i was running my 24/7 which has been solid for 6 months.

I was just playing BF4, boom... black screen, that took me by surprise, i never get black screens.

Download and run Sapphire Trixx.

Don't use the overclock settings. But increase VDDC offset by (say) 25.

I had exact same thing with my R9 290... only happened when not under load. The slight voltage boost sorted it.

I'm not wasting my time reporting it

Well thanks for not helping. Lol

Do you understand what the meaning of beta testing is? Once you install a beta driver don't go complaining on forums when you notice a bug, without reporting it. It's within your testing of the beta to do just that.

Go back to 14.4 if reporting isn't your thing. Don't come posting back bugs its your fault you installed a beta driver without fully understanding the meaning.

I'll give that a try. I have changed driver to 14.4 and so far no black screens.

Strange

Played some BF 4 earlier and FPS were dropping etc. Just checked my settings and I can't select a different API, no option for it  Using 14.4 drivers, no CCC, afterburner etc. installed.

edit:

tried reinstalling drivers and also installed ccc but option still isn't showing.........

edit:

God, dx is horrible :(

edit:

and for some reason my game changed to 32 bit so that is why! mantle only works with 64 bit

Don't exactly know tbh :p When I was having blue screen errors etc. and had everything uninstalled except the AMD display driver, I didn't really find myself missing the program as I don't use it for anything.

I know you're not the most intelligent individual in the world but it's clearly not a driver bug. The fact you have just basically burbled a load of old nonsense trying to say it is a driver bug is amusing.

It's a fault of the series of cards in that the voltage doesn't always clock up when the memory clocks up from idle. Because memory and core stability are linked to core voltage, when it clocks up to the 'overclocked' memory frequency on desktop use the voltage isn't high enough to handle the overclocked memory frequency and it black screens. If I drop it to stock frequency this problem no longer exists.

Just FYI I've tried 14.4 already and shock horror no different due to the reason above. So no I won't waste my time reporting it and no I wasn't as you put it 'complaining'. I was just pointing it out to MOOGLEYS in case he was getting the same issue.

Oh and I'll post what I like thanks.

Well MOOGLEYS change back to 14.4 fixed, it so what that tell you? Sounds like you have a bad overclock then.

And nice try once again at the personal insult. #horriblePerson.

It tells me that it wasn't the same issue. As I clearly said it was something for him to possibly try as that was an issue I have found personally.

My memory overclock is stable at 1675 as long as I don't leave it at that on desktop. So, no, not a bad overclock. I could game all day with 1675 MHz and not black screen. It black screens at anything above 1400 MHz on desktop due to the the issue with the voltage not stepping up at the same time the memory clocks steps up. You'd think I could get round it with a 2D/3D profile but the 2D profile doesn't always apply when I return to desktop from a game so I just do it manually now.

If you hadn't have incoherently ranted at me completely on a tangent to the issue I actually have then you'd find I would speak to you in a better tone. Speak to people how you wish to be communicated with.
