AMD R9 290 (Non-X, Pro, etc) Owners Club

Well after one to many BSOD, l have stripped the R9 290, refitted the stock cooler, check it was working fine and dandy and have now removed and boxed up till l get time to try and rememdy the BSOD. Even after two fresh installs of OS, DDU and multiple installs of 14.4/14.7 l got a little frustrated. Forgot how loud the stock cooler was lol and how hot it runs at idle. Still the best bangs for bucks l have ever spent on a GPU.

Eureka!

Looks like l managed to sort out my R9 290, flicked the bios switch back to stock, this in combination with another run of DDU, Cat 14.4 and the stock cooler she is back to being quiet under load (Well you know what l mean).

Fitted back into main rig and running with no dramas again :)

Does anyone know how to set the 2D minimum clocks in Catalyst Control Center. I've seen some old guides on the net and it doesn't seem to work for. Maybe its different for the 290 14.7 Beta drivers?

Download and install GPU Tweak, on the main panel hover over the 3D and select 2D, you can change the speed there, some suggested running gpu at 420 mhz on 2D.

So after my Eureka moment refitted the NZXT G10 and added the other 92 mm fan again and had another play, working flawlessly again :) Max GPU temp while gaming @ 56'c, Vrm 1 @ 74'c and Vrm 2 @ 54'c nice and quiet again. The H55 again is in push pull with a fractal 120mm quiet fan pulling and a Corsair 140 LED pushing. @ idle GPU @ 31'c, Vrm 1 @ 30'c and Vrm 2 @ 33'c.

Zip ties to the rescue (To secure it to card)

PS and yes disabling hardware acceleration in Chrome has solved my BSOD as well as while watching YouTube and then opening GPU-Z causing the computer to freeze.

Got my new Sapphire 290 Tri-x on Friday and just had a small heart attack from trying to overclock it with MSI afterburner.

I didn't up it "much" 1050/1400 but this caused my machine to lock up, every time it booted. Quick boot to safe mode and uninstall of MSI and I'm back...Think I might leave it at stock speeds for a while!

Any idea's why my overclocks won't stick in AB, TriXX or GPU tweak after a restart?

Voltage seems to stay where I put it but not the core and mem clocks.

I've not unlocked overclocking in CCC

"I've not unlocked overclocking in CCC" thats why :) 14.4 on you need to do that.

also make sure you have Enable GPU overdriver checked.

Little tip, never set msi afterburner to auto apply overclock on system start up, till you know it's stable.

No idea I'm afraid almighty. However you can use 2D/3D clock profiles to auto apply a chosen overclock without having to apply it yourself on every boot. That's what i do. :)

Still can't fit 3 290's onto my new x99 board, card #3 does not sit in the slot correctly because of the power switch and reset switch, rather annoyed!

Now to find 3 290's with smaller coolers or fit blocks to them and WC!

Managed to fit my 3 290's onto my board, how long before it blows up? :p

Running 3 290's, x99 rampage, 5930K, 3 SSD's, a soundcard and 8 fans off a 1000W SF PSU, think i'm pushing my luck tbh

Grab a 1300w PSU from the members market, that should keep you going. There are loads on there.

PSU Should be ok at stock, Mine hold around 850 watts with 3 cards(Full load, full fan 1100/1350). but hit 1130 watts when overclocked at 1155/1600
