AMD R9 290 (Non-X, Pro, etc) Owners Club

I tend to start with bigger numbers and then fine tune if I can be bothered (easy to do with water).
Chuck +50mv to start with and keep an eye on temps. If it works, lower it until it doesn't :)

You obviously shouldn't have to do any of this...

I know but I'm with a mate for the weekend playing COH2 and want it to work. I've tried adding +15 and it moves to +13, will try there and see how it goes!

I'm sure this has all been examined by more knowledgeable chaps than me in previous threads, but the fact that you had to force the cards to use max clocks/power to simply work may well point to your PSU, even if it is supposed to be a good one.

Then again, it could be the mobo or God knows what...

You know you want a 970 anyway :D

Going back to your comment on being another component causing the issue, can you or anyone recommend software for monitoring the power through the PSU & rails?

Good stuff.
I guess you'd need a volt meter. That's about all I got on that front :D

Best thing would be to try another PSU if you can. Sorry to state the obvious.

Oh, and it seems I slightly misread your original comment and thought that you had to do more than just increase the power limit to get it working.

No, but it is pretty odd that you had the same issue with two different cards.

It could be just coincidence, but it could also point at something to do with your pc. What exactly, I don't know...

Your second card was from Matt, and i assume it was working. So it's looking like the problem exists on something other than the cards, hence pebkac.

Yep been trying to help snips offline with this. Firstly i know the card i sent him is not faulty, unless it somehow developed a fault as soon as he got it. As he had exactly the same issue with the previous two cards, i suspect there is something else at play.

I fixed his clock dropping issue which was causing problems using RadeonPro. All was good for 10 days or so but now COD2 is causing him issues. I don't know if COD2 works properly with RadeonPro, not tested so that could be the problem.

The issues with browsers/iplayer comes down to hardware acceleration. There is a bug that is being fixed that can cause issues on some systems with any form of hardware acceleration running on browsers, iplayer etc. This can cause BSOD's or crashes/lockups. I wonder if that is what's causing the issue. Never had this problem personally though on any of my setups or 11 different 290 radeon cards, so it's hard to know exactly what it is.

Snips, you could try disabling powerplay in afterburner, see if that stops the issue from occurring. That will stop the clock changes when running iplayer etc. If it does then i think we know the culprit and the best bet is to hang tight until the new driver launches, or perhaps dial back to an older driver and see if the issue is still present. 13.12 WHQL might be worth a shot? Should not harm performance too much in either of those games you play.

Question: I created a profile within Radeon pro for CSS to force the clocks to be at max when gaming which works beautifully.

When trying to collect create a second profile for COH 2, it fails to apply. No error, noise or anything, it just unticks the boxes I've ticked when selecting apply. The padlock for allowing overdrive is already open!

Suggestions?

It's setting an OC profile, so I would've thought it would keep your clocks at whatever you've set them to.
Are you seeing clocks ramp down while in game?

Sorry, I can't help with RP. Not used it for donkeys...
