AMD R9 290 (Non-X, Pro, etc) Owners Club

Was playing H1Z1 last night and game just closed to the desktop. No error message or anything. Could just be an issue with the game being in beta rather than an issue with my card though.

Fairly late in the game I know, but I have just upgraded my reference 290 from Sapphire with a gelid icy cooler. Couldn't find the enhancement kit for the 290's so just used some creative zip tie placement and it works fine.

It was just an experiment, but very happy with how it turned out. Can try to get some pictures if anyone is interested.

Ok here are the pictures, sorry if they are too big and crappy, I took them with my phone :) The card is currently in my computer too.

The first three photos are just various angles of the Gelid cooler and 290 in place. The last two are the close ups of the VRM connections, VRM 1 is up first, you can just see the white cable tie that I used to hold it in place. The holes don't line up for you to use the supplied screws, luckily the cable ties worked perfectly.

In the last photo you can see VRM 2 and I had to improvise here too. I had to use one of the heat sinks that are supplied to fit NVidia cards and folded one of the sticky pads in half so that it balanced perfectly. I am using a black bit of plastic that you see wrapped around cables sometimes to help hold it in place.

Temps are well down and this is with my fan controller set to low (not sure what RPM that it) VRM1 reaches around 80 degrees when gaming but falls to 60 degrees if I turn the fans up to high. But I can happily live with 80 degrees, it's certainly well down on the 100 degree temps I was reading that other people were getting.

Picture 4 (VRM1) Look to the left of the power supply connection.

Picture 5 (VRM2) You can just see the folded up pad.

Glad it worked out for you :)

That is some serious sag though! If you ever decide to get rid of that thing in the top slot, a piece of dowel or something will fix it right up.

Thank you, but, I don't why the photo makes it looks so bad but it's not sagging that much at all. I think it's just the way the cooler sits on the card makes it worse that it actually is.

Actually after taking a good look at the reference fan and heat sink on the 290 I think it would be very easy to rig up a quieter fan. I think the whole problem with the reference cooler was the fan. The heat sink itself is actually pretty decent.

It's my next experiment, going to buy a couple of 120mm fans and see what I can come up with.

fellas i'm having a bit of a problem in bf4 with my tri-xs. i'm running crossfire in mantle and am getting a wierd texture flicker/scenery pop up. it's almst like the cards have slightly different maps loaded, also i rarely get flicker/stutter like only one card is outputing...

One card is OC version 1000/1300, the other standard tri-x 957/1250.

I've tried running them both at stock as well as with the same clocks 1000/1300. The non OC has low voltage i've noticed about 0.08 volts less than the OC...when under load.

I only play BF4 so want to get it perfect. cpu is 3930k at 4.6, 16gigs of samusung green at 2133. AX 860 powersupply

drivers??

i'm on the Omegas, but after a think it might be the latest patch...i'm getting weird hitching on objects as well and that either means it's my keyboard going as well (possible as my 17 month boys likes to mash the keys) or agaim it could be the game. think i'm heading to the bf4 thread

Hi everyone,

Another latecomer to the party. This is my rig. Dual R290s with Aquacomputer blocks. All fitted into a pedestal desk :) Absolutely silent in normal use and once I have it tuned up it should post some pretty good scores.

Just wanted to say hi because I may be looking for some advice on best safe overclock settings.
