290 or X?

I'm amongst the supperclocked 7970's...

#2328 - 7970 @ 1325 / 1900 - Uncle Petey

I feel so ashamed, i don't want to put my results in my own benchmark thread :p

Just a 290 gaming..

Although I'm liking the 290 tbh I'm finding it very inconsistent. It seems to work really well or really badly. BF4 with or without mantle is just not smooth lots of stuttering that is not there with the 780.

I think I will try some older drivers and see if they make a difference.

About the same as me @ 1040 / 1350 that ^^^ i think mine was 10400 at that. 2 or 3% less.

Its 11347, but i get 10966 @ 1125 / 1450 and its a 290P not X, so that would seem right, perhaps even a little better.

Interesting.

Yeah. i'm more worried about Kaap now, his scores look low for a 290X

Here is mine at 1125/1450

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/2866026

Score 10719

AMD Radeon R9 290X(1x) @1125/1450

Intel Core i7-4930K @4.0

Graphics Score 12240

Physics Score 13026

Combined Score 4878

Doing the sums again 12240 / 2816 * 2560 = 11127

I would say your Firestrike scores are spot on, don't forget the 4930k I am using is running a single card @PCI-E 3.0 X16 which gives me a few extra points.:)

Have you disabled Dices frame pacing? Cos they've implemented it (yes even for single cards on Mantle) and it causes more harm than it does good on single card. Type (or place into a user.cfg file) RenderDevice.FramePacingMethod 0 and hit enter.

That's a monster 7970. I had two 7970 Lightning BE's and neither could hit over 1200 :o

This the fastest 7970 Monster

#2477 - 7970 @ 1390 / 1950 - Locky

Beat me by a mile...

Don't play BF4 in DX at all now. haven't done for ages.

I tested out Crysis 3 yesterday. everything, including Texture on Very High and 4x SMAA. i didn't expect it to do it, not with 4x SMAA. so i was pleasantly surprised that it did, and rather well. 40 to 70 FPS. very smooth.

I'm going to play it all over again, just to admire how good it looks with those settings.

Decided I'm going to sell one of my cards. I've been giving them a fair whack all day and honestly they're too noisy and it isn't worth it at 1080p. My top card's fan needs to spin to ~90% T_T
Don't buy a 3 slot card for crossfire I guess :p Lesson learned.

This is what I get in valley Humbug.

ExtremeHD preset
GPU 1100MHz
MEM 1400MHZ
+50% power
Score 2622

CPU 2600k @4.2GHz
RAM 1600Mhz 8 8 8 24 2T XMP

My GPU was at a solid 99% for the majority of the test. I saw one dip, my min FPS was 28.2 but this odd spike occurs which drops it down to what you see in the screenie.

GPU voltage hit a max of 1.219v

Bumped up the core to 1150MHz

Score 2684

Strangely this time around the gpu hit 100% usage...
Core voltage hit a max of 1.273v

All tests were with cat 14.3 betas and msi afterburner beta 19

Can the 290's VRMs handle +200mV or will my card explode?

If you can keep the temps low enough then yes. I'd personally stick to 100mv or 125mv or lower if on air though. The more voltage you add, the lower the vrms need to be kept to keep optimum efficiency. I don't know the specifics though im afraid.
