When you say stock, do you mean your card's default clocks or 290 defaults clocks of 947/1250?

1040 / 1350, its factory overclocked :)

I think the problem is the individual core performance of your CPU, Heaven 4 is not realty effected by this and is just about having enough speed.

If you have got Tomb Raider it may be an idea to give that a run to compare or you could give Valley a run as well.

The CPU shouldn't effect the GPU score in Firestrike, and it is running flatout...

Same with Sniper Elite V2, The GPU is flatout all the way through, i put the MSI Screenie up in your thread, you can see the GPU usage.

I will do Tomb Raider next :)

PS: Dirt Showdown seems ok if a little bit low, 91 FPS, i was expecting about 93/94, but that's not bad.

It will be your cpu and memory speed. Look a the difference in my fps depending on my cpu speed and memory speed. This was with crossfire, so it won't be quite as dramatic with a single card, but it will still play a part.

2700k 4.4ghz
1600mhz 9-9-9-27-2T - stock seconds
290 crossfire @975/1250 stock
HtbNalx.jpg

2700k 5.27ghz
2133mhz 9-10-10-21-1T - tight seconds - BCLK 102.5
290 Crossfire 975/1250 stock
mErbGBY.jpg

My gpu speeds are the same in both tests. Even at 5.2ghz, im still slightly bottlenecked and gpu usage is not 99% consistent.

Just ran valley @1000/1250

4930k @4.0

Doing the sums if you use the same clocks on your GPU you should be looking for a score of 2327.

That's what I figured. Gets confusing when people refer to 'stock' as I think some people mean 'without me adding my own overclock'.
I'd call 947/1250 stock and 977/1250 a Factory-OC (if it arrived with that OC pre-set).

I also think I mis-read your post. When you said "Heaven 4 is about 1270 @ stock", you didn't mean that was your score did you? You meant that's what a 290 @ 947/1250 gets (approx)?

I was actually talking to thefogo who asked me the question and has the same GPU. but point taken :)

I didn't even really mean you specifically.
I think it's something I've become more aware of since I got my reference 290s that people say 'stock' when it is for them, but isn't given the 290 specs.
I suspect with my HIS 7950 BOOST cards in the past I probably referred to them as 'stock' when I actually mean BOOST clocks. I probably did the same with my 670 FTW cards before that.

I'm just more aware of it now that my 290 'stock' speed is the actual 290 'stock' speed. It gets a bit worrying when people do benchmark runs at 'stock' but beat my scores by a noticeable margin. Then after much concern on my part it turns out that they had a pre-OC'd card and meant they were running at 1020/1300 or some such...

Ok^^^ :)

And.... 2325, but thats at 1100 / 1400. the GPU usage tanked to 74% at one point.

I think the CPU is definitely holding you back here in Valley.

Here is my Firestrike run @1040/1350

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/2865945

Score 10034

AMD Radeon R9 290X(1x) @1040/1350

Intel Core i7-4930K @4.0

Graphics Score 11347

Physics Score 13049

Combined Score 4532

About the same as me @ 1040 / 1350 that ^^^ i think mine was 10400 at that. 2 or 3% less.

Its 11347, but i get 10966 @ 1125 / 1450 and its a 290P not X, so that would seem right, perhaps even a little better.

Interesting.
