So am I the unlucky one? Second 290 and I still get black screens, takes a bit longer than the last one which lasted about 10 mins, this one can last an hour or so, but it always comes.

If I down clock the memory it seems to go away, so I guess I am answering my own question?

Its a Power color 290, I can feel the draw towards Nvidia.

I have, finally, joined the 290 bandwagon. Just installed the Asus 290 I bought on the MM for £195 delivered and played a bit of BF4 at stock clocks just to test the card and it is running smoothly. Currently in the system in my spec but it will be going in my new m-itx system when OcUK get my Gigabyte Z97N m-itx board in stock (due in tomorrow) and will be joined by a i5 4670k cooled by my H100, 8Gb of that 2400MHz Beast RAM that was on offer a couple of weeks ago and will all go in a Corsair 250D case. Going to have a lot to play with on the overclocking front :).

Received my 290 pro / 290X today thanks to JediFragger (warning: long post ahead).

It is a XFX which is fully unlocked to a 290X. Been messing around with it in preparation for a massive Eyefinity benching session (reminds me, I need more tea!) and all is good so far.

A few pictures:

The box (I do like how small XFX make there boxes):

The card:

My wife's old 7850 looks so teeny in comparison :D

I always manage to make such a mess when changing around components in my case (yes this is messy for me):

All plugged in and ready to go:

Hard at work benching & not just watching Yes Minister.... :o:D

Confirmation of a full unlock & a very happy me!:

First impressions of the card are very good. I am happy to hold my hands up and say the cooler noise isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Yes it is audible above 50% but honestly isn't *that* bad. A custom fan profile and a bit of under volting keeps the temps in check (whilst benching at least). I haven't tried overclocking it yet but, I understand through the thread where I purchased it that 1150/1500 should be possible.

I am currently starting a massive Eyefinity review where my main aim is to see just how much an overclocked Athlon 760K will hold it back. The whole PC was built on a tight budget (hence the 7850), but I wanted more GPU grunt for Eyefinity and thought, ah what the heck.

Anywhoo, much more watching Yes Minister, sorry I mean benchmarking to carry on with!

Nice one Owen. Welcome to the Reference Radeon club. :p

Cheers Matt! :)

I am quite happy with my 290X for less than a GTX770....

EDIT: quick taster of some 1080p benches (I won't bother with 3DMark11 as it scored 8,510.. :o) in Thief (max settings per bench thread).

DX11 - 34.2 FPS

Mantle - 59.6 FPS

Reasonable boost I think.....
