AMD R9 290 (Non-X, Pro, etc) Owners Club

Or you could buy a proper mobo and a case that supported it while you where at it :D ?

The Hero is a great mobo and my Antec 1200 still has pleanty of space. It's just a bit of a shame that it only has one pcie 16x.

I could always go bit mining style with a pcie extension and leave the graphics card running on top of the case or something! :D

I've got a reference card at stock that insta-black screens when I install 14.4 (works fine with 13.12).

I have seen some suggestions that the 290 needs a 750W PSU. I've got a Corsair TX650 650W PSU with a 52A 12V rail. Does anyone know if it's worth upgrading my psu or would I be wasting my time and money?

For a single 290 your PSU should be absolutely fine.

I am running my 290/290X on a Thermaltake Toughpower XT675w and it is fine.

My second 290 does 1100 with +0mv ;)
I think i'll use that as my top card when i do my computer.

@the above ^
a stock 290 uses about 250-275w (from the wall) you really don't need a 750w PSU. I'm using a 500w unit for one (will be two shortly :D)

Edit:
Has anyone seen how much wattage running the fans @100% uses!!
I was idling around 90w @20% fan speed, and 105w @100% :p

High RPM Fans like GPU Fans use a lot more power than standard Case / CPU Fans.

They push a lot more air, which requires a lot more Horse Power. they could easily use 10+ Watts each flat-out. :)

I don't normally run graphics cards on air (well, not for long) so was shocked at the wattage being used just by a fan...tiny and noisy fan.
Anyway, was using 500w from the wall with max volts applied, 100% fan and clocked @1230/1375. Overvolting adds a fair wack to your power usage :) :D

Bit of a meh score - http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8346758
Using a little 3770k i'm sending off to my mate in Germany, so was setting up a little overclock for him (4.2, he's not big into overclocking and anything higher will make him paranoid of instability:D)

Guys I think my 290s are broken. I heard they're supposed to sound like jet engines?
