I run an MSI R9 290 Gaming OC off a 500W Corsair CX500M with no issues.

Also running of it: an MITX board, 3570 at stock, 2 sticks of RAM, SSD, Corsair H75 AIO water cooler and 2 92mm case fans as well as the usual external keyboard, mouse, xbox controller, usb headset and USB hard drive.

ok :) These things run @ 300 Watts stock, it just looks a bit tight.

My psu has been hard braided, direct braiding of the psu cable/24pin/8pin connector with paracord. Is it re sellable at all.

Drawing juice is.

4670k @ 4.4GHz
8Gb ram @ 1.65v
Msi z97 G55 sli.
2x 7200 rpm 500gb sata hdd in raid0
5200rpm seagate LP1.5Tb hdd
DDC water pump
2x 120mm fan

Add in a ssd when it arrives

Looking at that list it does look like R9 290 is a big ask. The 7950 might be at its limits with the age of the psu!

Does it make sense when OCUK get credited a refund from a manufacturer they only refund you the price of the cards excluding VAT -

Obviously I paid Vat so why would I be offered only the none vat price....

No response from them yet so im not accepting it >_>.

I dont know what to do now.

I am hoping that Bailey was in a rush and is still not getting what I am saying.

I should get the full price which is card plus vat as a refund not less...

He only briefly replied before OCUK closed and said that the price was EX vat but did not add onto that anything about me getting the cards + vat as a refund or to swap.

What this means is for the price of 2x 290's being refunded is I cant even purchase a 780ti.

The 290's go for more second hand then what bailey has offered here unless he is forgetting to tell me ill get vat refunded too..

yo im getting some really high temps when trying to play watchdogs on my msi 290 gaming. As soon as im in game its hitting 94c iv got a corsair 600t with the 4fans on the sidepanel sucking air out so airflow shouldnt be a problem. even if i take the side off its still hitting 94c with the fan maxxed at 100%.

Anyone else getting this high temps with just watchdogs or is there something wrong with my card?

just checked my card and one of the fans had stopped spinning it started again after a little touch should i get this replaced as faulty as the fan might stop at any time?

Check if both fans are running on the card.

Depends on the age of your PSU ultimately, as the HX520 is fairy old. It's perfectly capable, even if Bumhug tells you otherwise. My rig draws around the 320-340w from the wall underload with a stock 290 and overclocked 3770k. I'm using a 500w PSU, keep meaning to slap my second 290 in, only it's sitting on blocks waiting for the 4790k to come out ;)

I don't get why people have such varying amounts of power usage.

I did some Heaven tests last night.

1440p, no tess, 4x AA, 290x @ stock, 2700k @ stock, saw me pulling 500w from the wall. Factor in 80% efficiency, and my system was only using 400w.

In light of that, I was contemplating getting a non-X 290 to crossfire with (don't mind my 290x dropping to match the 290 speed, as crossfire 290s are more than enough for 1440p). Now based on my test, and given that I could probably undervolt the 290x a bit if it will be matching non-X speeds, I would have though my 750w, 62A psu would be fine.

:) I tried 1200/1500 at 150mV - but not experimented much more as wanted a daily clock

even at +75mV, after a round of Valley or a run of 3dmark VRM1 is at 98-100C

within tolerance but a bit hot for my liking
