AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

I'm actually interested in the 290x I pre ordered the bf4 version, the only thing that has me a bit uncertain could be the heat issue and fan noise, my current two 5870s were noisy when above 50% with similar fans as the 290x to the point that I replaced both with three fan artic cooling which are amazing. Hopefully when the official reviews come out we can find out the noise and heat as I don't really want to have to swap coolers again.

I think on the 290x stock will be fine with mild overclocks. If you are buying the 290x to overclock I would budget for extra cooling. It makes sense to be honest.

Going to say it now, for the performance gains over my 7970 at 1080p if the card is over £500 I'm cancelling my order.
If it's £450 I'll have a good think, still not sure if I would go for it (child in me would probably twist my arm).
£400 is the sweet spot for me, guaranteed buy.

The alternative is a laptop which I've really wanted for a while.

edit: awesome sig wazza :D

Sounds like good logic to me - 400ish and it's a done deal (with 780 beating performance), £500 is too much. I'm also considering cancelling my pre-order because I won't be using any aftermarket cooling and you guys have frightened the life out of me regarding the usual stock AMD fan :(

Will then pick up a non-reference version if the benchies hold true. :D

Ok a couple of points those latest benchmarks were posted up 3 days before the Hawaii announcement event, so if you really think they are accurate then that is up to you.

If AMD really do have this sown up performance wise, why are they so worried about a 770ti announcement, it will be slower than a 780 so not a contender at all.

I really wanted to chime in on the whole 4K gaming issue, with another 2 years at least until 4K screens are any good/ even remotely affordable, think what it would be like gaming on two year old GPU's. But then it dawned on me that two year old GPU's are 7970's so I'm glad I didn't chime in now :D

Nvidia should delay their announcement till after BF4 launches just to annoy the hell out of the AMD BF4 edition card pre-order people. I can see it now Game launches with no cards to play it on yet due to non delayed delays in the AMD card launch circus.

same for the 770's etc
gpu's same as the cpu's right now, theres little new to upgrade to

the 560ti still sells some places
most the performance increase over the last 2 years has been drivers
its pretty boring for ppl into desktops

Surely OCUK must know the price on the card. Isn't OCUK working with Caseking.de?
They currently have pre-built machines for sale with the R9-290X in it, with a price tag on it. In theory u could remove the price of the other componenets, and have a rough estimate?
