AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Thanks for that Matt, useful info.

CPU wise I've got a [email protected] that is cooled with a Corsair H75 exhausting from the top of the case. It's an ok cooler and the cpu runs about 74c when maxed out running Handbrake which is acceptable but probably near it's limits hence why I'm a bit worried running the 295x2 as an intake and upping the internal air temps too much.
I've got an Akasa fan controller in the system with a few spare headers so I could consider hooking up the 295x2 rad fans to that as well, I believe that's what you've done and I assume that works fine?
The toughest thing I've found on the gpu so far is Dragon Age Inquisition, running at 1440p vsync off in Mantle mode with most settings maxed. Both gpus run flat out at 99/100% all the time and I have to run stock clocks with my undervolting to prevent throttling. Everything else I've tried, even Furmark, I can overclock the memory to 1550 with a -0.050v undervolt and it's fine.

Okay, should be fine. To be perfectly honest though, with a Tri/Quad set up I'd recommend using a X79 or preferably an X99 system , if you can afford it.

I use Noctua Industrials PPC 2,000 RPM on mine using a fan controller on the front. If you go this method make sure to have an overlay on the screen so you can monitor gpu core temps and adjust as you see fit. I also have a Logitech G19 Keyboard and i have the CPU/GPU temps displayed on that as well so i can monitor temps at all times, even when I'm playing a Mantle title or sitting on the desktop.

Regarding temps, just experiment and see what works best for you. The bigger the case the better temps you'l get really, space really helps as does fan position. It's handy if you have the 295 dropping heat in the case if you can have a fan nearby directing that heat out of the case.

Yeah I'd love a full up X99 system but this build is not quite 1 year old yet and I have a second child due in few months so I don't think I'll get agreement from the finance manager for another full system upgrade and my wife is a chartered accountant so there's no way I'd be able to sneak it through either ;)

Monitoring wise I have a second screen that always has various monitors open including multiple Afterburner graphs for all temps, clocks, usage etc plus I also have a G19 with temp graphs running so I'll always be able be able to keep an eye on what's going on.

Do you need to turn yours up and down or do you just have them set at the highest 'silent' speed and find that's enough to cope whatever the loading?

I've got a Phanteks Enthoo Pro case so it's pretty roomy, looks very similar to yours from that picture so hopefully I can keep decent airflow. Will be interesting to see how hot my office gets during the summer months and how that affects my system temps though.

I'm really kicking myself that I didn't get the 1000w psu when I built this system though, would make it no-brainer to just grab a cheap second hand 290x and stick with that. Oh well, lesson learnt I suppose.

Totally understandable, it's an expensive habit.

I tend to turn mine up and down to be honest, so far half way is keeping things in control for me, but the gpu's are not under the highest load at these speeds. I know once i move to the Phanteks Enthoo Primo though my temps will be even better as there will be so much more space.

59c on thermal probe attached to the rad and 72c max ingame (bf4) Deffo gonna put back on the original fan as it shifted air much better.

I have a question, mainly aimed at AMDMatt purely coz i know he has these running in quadfire

I wanna get another 295x2 because this one turned out to be a bit of beast, now, say i add in the second card, do i have the option between trifire and quadfire, or its either crossfire or quadfire?

Personally, considering how little support crossfire receives at the moment, I wouldn't even consider anymore at the moment. Depends what you play I guess.

its more for looks and benching, i wont be playing games with anything more than crossfire, i mean GTA plays horrendous on this card! Hate to see what it is like with tri/quad fire

You have the option between a single 295 core, regular 295x2 Crossfire and 295x2 QuadFire.

CrossFire/QuadFire is flawless on GTA V. :)

Thanks for that :)

OK....GTA.....my games a stutterting mess, do i need to tweak some settings in CCC? or am i doing something wrong?

Show me a screenshot of the settings you're using, including the advanced settings.

Do you have anything like GPU-Z running in the background?

What are your specs?

Spec:

4770K @ 4.3GHz
16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 CL9
Asus Impact Z97
XFX 295x2 @ 1100/1600
Silverstone Strider 850W PSU

I run MSI Afterburner OSD, game is solid at 60fps, its just stuttery

No GPU-Z?

Try turning extended distance scaling off completely as this has been shown to decrease performance significantly.

I will come back with some 1440P settings that work well for me to share with you, stand by.

These settings work fine for me, just drove around the city for 5 minutes. You can always drop Grass to HIGH if you find Very High tanks performance in grassy areas.

OMG!!!!!!

Been playing for an hour or so online, settings work a treat, im running 4X AA & FXAA and not a single stutter!

If i ever see you somewhere, be aware i will hug you :D

The witcher is causing the card to hit 74C and throttle. Might try moving the fan to intake, but not convinced it will help. Wish the throttle limit was higher. CPU is water cooled as exhaust and the front of the case has three intake fans, so it isn't like the air flow is bad in the case. There is even a side fan blowing into the case.

I would have thought 80c would be a better area for it to start to throttle, they went with 75 for some reason.

Some on here are reducing core voltage to help with temps though.

Also reduced vcore as far as it will let me whilst also being stable... -50mv currently in afterburner.

Not sure what else to do...only GTAV and the witcher 3 cause this.
