AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Right does anybody else have this probem, I tried searching on the net with no results.

The vrm fan spins really fast and loud after about a minute of getting into windows. It always does it from a cold boot and recently it started doing it randomly hours after the initial boot. After a few minutes the fan quiets down again. There is no sign of overheating or throttling or anything like that, it happens only when the card is sitting idle. It's almost as if the vrm fan pwm control has slowly gone mad.

Anybody else encountered this?

I only get it for about 30 seconds or so when botting up windows.

Did you manage to find a fix?

How is everyone finding their card running under windows 10? So far I have discovered disabling ULPS causes issues for me.

I'd very much recommend replacing the past if you're using the stock cooler. When I got it it was hitting 75 at stock clocks and throttling. After a repaste it maxes out at about 60.

The screws are a bugger to remove that hold the pumps to the cores though. I needed a pliers to give me extra torque with the precision screwdriver.

I am pretty sure this would lower my temps and noise as a result, but I have temps under control now and they stay usually around 69-70c and I do not experience throttle. Temps will only get better now that the weather is cooling down.

This is why I have not done it because I believe it would void the warranty on the card by doing so. But if warranty is not an issue for anyone out there, I am sure it would help, as there are some people who have cards which are running much cooler than others.

I recall AMDMatt doing it on the cards he purchased. Does repasting them void warranty?

Most partners don't mind you removing the paste. Even when there's a sticker covering the screws, that's just to discourage the inexperienced.

It's best to check the waranty thread on this forum for which partners allow heatsink removal.

It's an XFX and has void if removed stickers all over the card. And you know, it is XFX... :o

Hello fellow AMD ppl, I noticed new interesting trend.... I boot my pc up and its all nice and quiet and like 2 min later without doing anything the fan on the card itself speeds up i open afterburner and I only see 0% on all fans...i got 15.7.1 drivers.... and ideas ?

Before i buy one of these,do any of you regret it? or are currently thinking of going for a 980ti or anything else?
Had my 7990 for a while and only the 295x2 is really tempting me despite it not been the newest card on the block!

I regretted it. At first it was just for silence and power but the reality is using all that power wasn't possible. The crossfire support is not massively great and in a lot of games you only tend to use 35% of each card and when I went 4k I found only the SLI support and scaling of 980tis was enough.

I also got mine at around £370 which was justifiable.

I had two of them which was so extreme but truth be told at the time it didnt even utilize one of the cards let alone two of then. The temps where great but if i had my choice at that time (and the card was available) i would have picked a single TI

Is it the card fan, not the radiator yes?

Wipe out the drivers from the system and re-install again.

Had the same issue with some drivers back in July but a driver wipe and installation again, sorted it.

Yep, I'm running a 295x2 and a 290x for tri and I've never looked back especially with Windows 10... BF4 maxed to limits nev er dips below 100fps at 5760x1080 and Dying Light runs sweet now over same res maxed... around 50fps mark consitantly... happy, I'd buy these again no hesitation.

Guys, given that it looks my good old trusty H100i is on it's way out, I am considering to create custom loop and put the 295X2 under water.

So the choices are the
Alphacool NexXxoS GPX ATI R9 295X2 M01 Waterblock
EK-FC R9-295X2
Aqua kryographics Vesuvius. (do I need to buy the separate backplate for this?).

Costs, knowing I cannot post them, I would only say that the difference between Alphacool and Aqua is £80!! and Alphacool and EK £60. (Alphacool is the cheapest of the lot).

Any feedback is welcome :)

I've got the EK with the backplate, here's how it looks, at stock clocks at full load both cores are 41 degrees
