AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Try undervolting the 295x2 to -0.050v via MSI Afterburner to see if it's stable. In addition, you will need to replace the stock fan with either 2x Corsair SP120 performance edition fans, or you'll need to use a fan controller and two fans of your choice to lower the temperatures. The stock fan is not quite up to keeping the temps in check, but it is very quiet.

This, my temps have never gotten anywhere close to throttling since. I also have a custom fan profile using speedfan.

I've not messed with mine really, I've got an EK block and do all my overclocking through Afterburner.

I think they are two identical BIOS, one being a backup if anything goes wrong when flashing the BIOS.

Yeah im the same EK block and using after burner, i mean it overclocks to 1135/1550, was hoping to see if i could get any further

Just installed the latest drivers (15.11.1) + the Crimson software edition.

Any idea how to get rid of the 'AMD Crossfire X logo' in the upper-right. The option no longer shows in the 'Radeon Additional Settings -> Gaming -> AMD CrossFire (tm)' bit, I just get the option for 'Enable AMD CrossFire for DirectX 9/10/11'. Apart from disabling Crossfire entirely.

What's the failure rate like on this card? I'm sadly having to return mine under warranty. It' started giving me graphical glitches and serious screen tearing... Not sure if they will be able to send it back for repair or not. I would be happier with a replacement, but Overclockers don't seem to stock them any more. Not sure what the outcome will be, but I'm pretty disappointed now because I can't find another R9 295 x2 for anywhere near what I paid for it. :-(

Fan setup

Hey guys,

Can someone let me know if my current fan setup is the best for my 295x2?

I am currently getting around 36c ambient temp and 70c maximum when gaming in 4k in ultra settings @ 60fps on demanding games.

Thanks ahead!

Gutfux, in future could you post large images in spoiler tags as i have done for you. Or resize to 1280x720 max. Thank you. setter.

Short of replacing the fan with a more powerful one, that's probably as good as you're going to get it. As it'll throttle when it'll hit 74c, you're just fine at 70c.

You could try undervolting the R9 295x2 to -0.050v in MSI Afterburner, that will reduce temps a little. Ignore me if you are doing this already. I agree with Shiari though, decent setup there and short of replacing the fan, not much more you can do. If you want a fan replacement the Corsair SP120 Performance Editions are a good shout, if you want to use the weak fan controller on the R9 295x2 to control the fans. If you go with a separate fan controller which you manually control you can stick some beastly Noctua Industrial fans on there.

I am not sure the top right hand fan will be helping the airflow of the CPU or the GPU much as they are both fighting for air? Can the RAD not be relocated?

I would get an AIO for the CPU so you can relocate the heatsink for the CPU closer to the back exit - save lots of space and lower overall temps of the case down.

Thanks all, I had under-volted my card already so will get a better fan for the GPU HS and replace my CPU cooler with a block also to help airflow

I already have a fractal fan controller for all my case fans so you are saying it would be better to link the new fan up to that and turn it up for gaming?

Probably you are the only person I know of, that had issues with this card.

Mine runs fine, even if considering to sell it for around 350 and get a FuryX.

Witcher 3 Massive FPS drops when above 1080p

Hi all, me again :)

I am I pickle, I have been playing the Witcher 3 (with expansions and most recent patch) in 1080p with no problems for a while but when I upgraded to my new 4k monitor and I try to play in 4k resolution it works fine hovering around 40 fps but after I move forward a few meters in game it drops right down to 20 fps and is stuttering loads.

Temps are fine (GPU max 67c and my card throttles at 71c, CPU max 60c)

I attempted to drop the resolution down to 1440p and I get a constant 60fps but after running around for a few mins I get the drops when loading new areas and sometimes when cut scenes happen (same fps, down to 20)

Its worth noting that alt tabing out and back into the game bring the FPS back up to normal but the problem happens again after varying times, I am running in full screen.

I have looked at GPU-z and I notice that when the fps drops occur, my core clock goes down from 1050 to about 450 and this is only happening with this game (I play lots of games and never have a problem like this)

Things I have tried but problem still happening;

Wipe and reinstall AMD drivers with driver wiper
Attempted using non-beta latest version of drivers and hotfix
Complete reinstall of game and delete user config files
Using low, medium, high and ultra settings
Checked various performance guides and used everything you could think of
Wiped my PC of any overclocking hardware and tested using stock clocks/voltages
Disabling ULPS
Using Radeon pro to force constant clocks and flip queue size to 1
Setting high priority in task manager
Used a few different crossfire profiles reccomended from various sorces

Any thoughts?
