Oh yeah I know that, I did some checking into that yesterday. But i've got it on atm for power saving currently.
Was more wondering where the hell in this version of AB my fan control had disappeared too, might have to revert.

We cannot manually control the fan on the 295X2.

The fan control is throttling based on the temperature of the coolant it seems, according to various sites they did a review on the card.

So yes it turns out we can basically take 75mv off the core on these cards lol for super cool temps and still run them close to 1100mhz.....................the ram on them basically overclocks to the limit. I've tested it on mine too this batch of 100 cards must be like a golden batch. These have for sure been binned from the finest 290X chips.

I've been to -100mv and 1100mhz core 1650mhz mem.............seems to still work lol

How much % power limit? my VRAM can only go to 1625 apparently according to MSI AB

People with idle temps of around 30c do you have push/pull on the rad or just push?

You're right I'm running 1625 ram actually Powerlimit +50% of course it allows more power to the chips. Kinda limited to under 1100mhz by this limit else we'd be going crazy.

Are you sure you are at -100mv? Mine crashed the moment I press apply....

I'm looking at you all envious ! My R9 295 is still unopened and boxed up and unfortunately going back to to OCUK for a refund. ( orders from the missus ). I so wanted to play BF4 at 100 plus FPS !

Didn't you explain that you are going to sell the Black?

Wouldn't cause any harm would it not using the fan header attached to the GPU? I think I would rather attach it to my motherboard and have it at max rpm.

You mean the radiator fan? Not at all. I have it replaced already. hahah....

Plus is it just me or does crossfire just seem to work on every single game? There seems to be good scaling in almost everything except Dead Rising 3. So weird after having to have profiles for nvidia to just brute forcing it to everything with AMD.

Yeah. I managed to make TESO work also by brute force. Was the damn Evolve. Every time turned it off the CF was working in TESO.

As for power. The best I could achieve without crashes atm is 1090/1625 with -40mV/+50% limit. But did 2 Valley runs, and the temps didn't climb more than 64C/60C!!! and that until the very end. Using the first 16 scenes didn't went even to 60C. Weird card. (and scores 4700+, considering that I was on low 4400 yesterday).

Installing 14.8 atm to see if things get better

That's excellent. I've just realised I can't stop the card downclocking playing crysis 3 on very high as the load is just too extreme even at stock. Might order a couple of Corsair SP120s. I don't know if it's possible to replace the amd fan though because it's kind of entwined into the card.

Got 2 Piranhas. Had them both on, but decided to remove one and set the other on 80% speed, which they are barely louder than the GPU fan.
(get 2 though, I might plug the second one also just to have my mind in peace).
Btw low scores and crap performance was driver related. 14.8 are absolutely awesome drivers far superior to 14.7
(Why they are not on AMD website is weird).

First attempt on 1095/1625 with -40mV/+50% limit, just dodge 5300 mark at Valley by 2 points (score 5298) and temps didn't climb higher than 62C!!!!!!!!

With 14.7 best score was 4752 with 1100/1625 -30mV/+50% limit.

No I mean the actual fan header from the GPU which powers the stock fan, if i plug it into my motherboard and not the GPU it would run faster and keep it cooler in theory.

If you mean the fan that is on the radiator, yes. The fan on the card, I cannot understand how you can remove the cable and plug it on the motherboard. Seems you need to unscrew the cooler and pass the cable from one of the side holes....

instead of plugging the fan on the rad into the gpu plug it into the motherboard, that's what I mean. So it runs at max rpm constantly instead of downclocking.

Well you see ever since the r9 295 got announced and reviewed I always wanted one. I even bought that 1300 watt psu months ago from ocuk when it was on daily offer for £150 so that one day I could power it up. Then that AMD day happened where they sold it for £750 for like 3 of them and i wanted to drive down to ocuk to pick it up but I was on call out that weekend and could not risk being on the motorway hrs from the sites We support.

Then saw 2 r290s on the member market and bought them to crossfire but the heat output was so bad it throttled them within seconds and case almost melted. So i sold them bought a second hand gtx titan black 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Then Gibbo made this amazing deal and I thought it was fate, sadly my wife has umm convinced me the money needs to be spent on replacing our garage door.

I would argue that the garage door is used few minutes per week, and a graphic card is used hours each day. Along with the sale of the Black will go towards the garage door.....

At least my ex wife was more understanding when one night arrived home with a BFG 8800GTX on one hand. Opened the box. Put the t-shirt on that came with the card, and we went to the cinema.

My radiator is mounted so that the pipes are at the top, but he seems to be saying the correct way os tp have the pipes at the bottom?!

As for someone mentioned the instructions manual, there only 1 A5 paper having a warning and no images -_- Which I checked this morning after seeing the post above. The manuals say nothing. And I read them...

So I need a new case, or get the radiator above the case and somehow make a stand. (and buy 4 pin extensions for the Piranhas)

I set it to 1080p with no AA. Everything else but vegetation Alpha on extreme. My frame rate consistently dips to 30.

1080p, Ultra preset no AA, the benchmarks was saying last night 127 fps.
While the lowest point was 95 fps, with ultra units.

When I go home tonight I will do it with the settings you want.

Please note make sure you have installed the radiator correctly. Cannot stress enough how important that is. How do that please read the link above.

Hey Chaps, Gibbos kindly arranged for my new unopened R9 295 to be picked up by OCUK. I don't think the returns Department was happy about it and he might get in Trouble.

However what outstanding service ! One of the best I have received from any retailer.

I just ran the benchmark then and the game told me it averaged 90FPS. Can you try the Carthago Historical battle? According to fraps that's where I'm getting the huge frame hit. 40-30fps at best. I'm wondering if it's just that map.

No worries. Might be late evening since I need to find a way to set the rad properly for tonight, since my case is left sided, and need to place the rad outside the case on the top of it.

(tomorrow I am waiting rad stands & cable extensions to sort it out properly)

i've got my top mounted so both the inlet and outlet tubes point down

OK. With the radiator below the graphic card (left sided case) and the pipes on the top the whole things was boiling after awhile. (temps initially idling at 32 but after a run on full load hovered at 50C idle, never losing temp only climbing when benching)- Radiator very hot on touch.

With the rad pipes to the side (still below the card level) the idle temps drop to 30-32C. While benching at 1095/1625 was holding at 62-66C, and drop temps every time it stopped or change scene on Valley for example.
When stopped temps drop to 35-38C while idling.

The above with 1 and 2 Piranhas at 80% fan speed. Not the stock fan.


When I go home tonight, rad goes to top of the case outside of it since is left sided and everything upside down. I will let you know tonight how it will perform with stock fan on that position.
(I will try to find a way to make it stable)


I cannot use the Piranhas until tomorrow when I have a rad base & 4 pin extensions coming in. Where I will take pics also, and possibly go and get a metal drill bit to open holes to stabilise the radiator to the top of the case.
That will do until later in the year when I plan to buy new case and go properly under water. (still looking for a case though, if anyone has knowledge of a case where I can put 2 360/480 rads let me know)

Mines top mounted. During Heaven its reaching 75 and throttling. I'm wondering whether it's just the position of the radiator, and if I should move it to the back.

If the pipes are at the bottom you should be OK.

I have problems with my cards, one card runs every thing fine. But when I enable the second card "4 gpus" no matter what game I try and play, the game has a line at the top of the screen that flashes and I get a strange kind of lagg. They both work fine together when benchmarking it just happens as soon as I launch any game, has anyone got any suggestions I could try.

Assuming you use Catalyst 14.8, what game are you talking about?
(are your radiators properly set?)

Is closed loop with whatever gas/liquid is used to operate without pump.
