AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

People need to state temps with pipes up or sideways and then temps with pipes down.

I have it now with the stock fan as shown in the picture.
Waiting some stuff to arrive (incl dust filter) to I can put back again the Piranhas and set up the base.

Temps. Idle 32 GPU1/29 GPU2. Full load (Valley) max 56C/52C.
With -80 mV, +50% Limit, 1030/1625.

In comparison my CPU idles at 22 and full load (Valley) gets to 47 (some spikes to 50).

Noise. According to the sound measurement software on my phone, 40-41db. Basically nothing....

Just a hummmmmmm. My laptop fan is more loud.

In comparison my 780 was screaming under load (66db), generating more heat also.

So how about you? Since you asked about the rest of us.

I wouldn't say a good comparison was having the rad on the outside of your case to someone who has it in a closed case.

What else to do? My case as you guess is left sided. So everything is the other way around.

Wonder if can make a mod on top of your case for it

Yes. I am waiting some radiator bases from OCUK. Unfortunately it seems Friday they do not ship orders, even if you pay premium for Saturday delivery :(

Got mine setup like this atm, idles around 33-34c.

Turn the radiator 180 degrees. Is on the wrong side according to the documentation. The pipes have to be to the bottom not the top.

Yeah I had a read of the review, mounting it with pipes down is very tricky though and looks haggered.

If you read the A5 page with the big warning signs, that was inside the box, it says that you need to mount it like that.

Looking haggard is irrelevant, considering we are talking about the card here.

50c? wtf, you living at the north pole or something?

Yeah :) this card is asking for proper watercooling and 4K monitor to show it's might.

However still, if you have some good cold airflow, or you manage to get the rad outside the box with some good fans, it doesn't get hot at full load with a setup like -50/-60mV, +50% limit, and up to 1180-1100/1625 overclock.

bemaniac has it at stock speeds with -100mV and +50% limit, on 4K res playing Crysis 3!!!! I bet his card going to generate power soon, not consume it :D (lol).

Yeah both ;)

High Res :)

Custom waterblock Single Slot Card R9295X2 :)
EK 360 rad front
EK 360 rad top
Aquacool Monsta 420 rad external

Nice. :)
I am jealous. Could you tell me which case is that, please?

I play TW Rome 2 almost whole day. After 90 hours having played it previously, this time I enjoy it most. It doesn't become a slideshow like with the 780 on big battles, nor having the damn fans screaming even at stock speeds.

The only problem I have is the damn flickering of the screen after a turn ends, if there is no report popup.
I cleared up the CA folder in %appdata% and deleted rome 2.exe to rebuild it, and cleared some outdated mods. Still nothing.

And I have made it system settings, by selecting the CF profile AMD provides with the drivers.

Anyone has experienced the issue?

Beta patch 15 fixes the issue

There was a post from 8Pack, he did some good research on the subject of 4 290X and the Superflower PSUs.

Ploppy2k3 what is your PSU?

In other news I've ordered ocuks new silverstone high pressure fans so they're going on it tuesday.

Are there any Silverstone high pressure fans? Because last time I checked the best they could do was 1.82mm H2O/67 CFM flow.

In comparison the Piranhas are 3.04mm H2O/79 FCM with only 3db more noise.
Which can set to 80% fan speed as I have, and are not more loud than the stock fan which is very quiet to be honest.

Finding mine is on the edge of throttling with the stock profile under sustained load, any significant o/c pushes it to 74 deg+ - that's with the rad rear mounted with pipes pointing down.

So I'll follow your advice I think and grab a pair of Piranhas. Can a Y-splitter cable be used to connect both fans to the card, or are you connecting one / both to the mobo?

Personally I will connect both to the motherboard.

By the way, get MSI AB set the card to the lowest mV until is stable (NEGATIVE NUMBER), while at the same time put power limit 50%.

Mine runs cool at -60mV/50% limit at speeds 1090/1625. And even while on Valley it will not hit more than 65C with the stock fan.

bemaniac managed to go all way down to -100mV with 1030/1625 overclock and runs Crysis all day along.

i will give it a go. my other PSU is an HX1000 so :(

its a shame as I've had that PSU for years and its been 100% but given the issues people are having with it I had to opt for the superflower (stupid name!)

The problem with the HX1000 is because is multirail not single rail
My 700 Corsair could have hold the 295X2 just fine, if it wasn't multirail one.

My fans haven't arrived yet, and DPD haven't given a delivery time which is very unlike them.

I was playing Crysis 2 at 1440p, DX11 Ultra mode with Afterburner running and GPU 2 was throttling down to 750Mhz.

That's pretty bad. GPU 1 rock solid still.

I might reduce the mV power as was suggested.

I assume you have the radiator placed as per instruction (basically the A5 page with the big STOP & WARNING signs).

The rad has to be above the card with the pipes down...... Any other position isn't going to work.

Are they the right way around in this pic of the ocuk Vesuvius system?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-443-OE

Cannot see from the images where is placed on the right hand side.
However this is the correct way......

** No holinking images, thank you **

That is me temporary until I go under water, yeah left sided case :(
(still waiting since Friday the parts to make the casing for the rad, come on OCUK 4 days to send the order...)

this is Loxa, but need the pipes to the bottom he has them at the top, however is perfectly positioned above the card.

Which 4K monitor you got?

As for games,
Tetris, Minecraft, Xcom UFO Defence...............

hahahahahah..

Crysis 3 (just buying it), Tomb Raider, BF4 (i do not have it but everyone says is good), even Rome 2. I enjoy most the later, because is not a slideshow on the battles any more. :D
After that, if you have access try the Arena Commander (Star Citizen).

My GPU is also throttling. At first I thought it was due to the location, but now it's mounted at the back (pipes down) and on Heaven it's still just about reaching 75. It's better now, but it still gets there.

I was playing Tomb Raider at 1080p with everything maxed out (incl 120hz limit). The card is working both cores at 100% however the temps are 64 and 58 respectively during the duration of the session.

Open the side of your case and see if it is the case air flow and ambient temp.

Went for the samsung u28d 4k monitor.

Bet Tetris in 4k would be amazing ;)

I got the amd gold award with the card and have chosen star citizen as one of the games (got the rift dev kit 2 so should be good). Also went for aliens isolate and hitman.

Gonna try Titan fall to as looked good on the xbox one advert.

Yeah I got Alien, Just Cause 2, and Star Citizen. However it seems that the SC code, is only one for one of the 5 modules.
And to be precise is for the Arena Commander module only.
Not the Squadron 42 (main game), nor the MMO, Planetside or the FPS game.

I am tempted to buy the U28D also, however the AOC U3477Pqu looks nice also, even if bigger and with less pixel coun. Idk when time comes (October) I will make my decision :)

Hmm

Did anyone else gets a weird scratch sound coming from the radiator from time to time? Did it yesterday couple of times during the day but ignored it. However today every 1h or so is doing it for just for 2-3 seconds and is gone.

No temps issue or anything else according to the monitor software and is doing it while idle also. Any thoughts?
I do plan to go full underwater by end of the year, and is a nice card (not as nice as bemaniac's one), running cool and quiet at 1030/1625 with plenty of overclocking headroom. So I do not want to send it back. :(

(managed to get it all way to 1190/1625 but runs hot and needs proper watercooler with 2 360/480 on it's own)

Very sure, from looking around the net when my card was having issues having to mess with voltages and put up with a hot and loud card was the rule rather than the exception with the 7990. It seems that getting one that worked out of the box like the reviews said was a rarity at best. I've not got a 295x2, a pair of 290's.

The card runs fine out of the box, and is very quiet (40db), even after 2 hours playing Tomb Raider at 100% core load with no throttling.
But the radiator has to be positioned as per instructions

a) Needs cold air
b) Has to be higher than the card
c) The pipes have to be at the bottom.

So some of us, are lowering the voltage to lower the unneeded heat, without affecting the card performance (hell even takes a huge overclock with less power), replacing the fans to mitigate the cold air that we cannot get inside the case etc.

And a final thought. This is "Overclockers". Anyone around here complaining about fiddling with the card, is on the wrong forum :D
