AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

You won't be able to get 1440p 120hz with that I think CaptainRAVE.

I bought a mini dp to dp cable.

Just played a whole round on BF4 without a crash so hopefully it was just the other BIOS that was causing it.

Picked up the mini dp to dp cable...only had white, but problem solved :)

Well that was weird. Plugged in the mini dp, computer spun up then switched off. Can't get it to switch on now!

Uh oh, have I fried my motherboard? I plug the mini dp in and the sound card lights up as if power is going through the MB? What is going on?

Edit: seems to be only when the mini dp is plugged in, clear CMOS and it boots up no problem without the mini dp???

Edit: plugged it in after the pic was booted up and problem solved again. Weird.

Well it is an impressive card.

Just ran valley and got 4611 which is about 1200 points more than my 7990.

Temperatures peaked at 68 and 67. It is great to see them so cool AND so close to each other this time. Will work on those temps, might try undervolting a fraction next and perhaps changing the air flow - currently taking air out of the case, but it should be relatively cool air as it is intersecting the cool air from the front of the case before it gets to the CPU.

Edit: undervolted by .50mv...seems stable and has knocked a degree or two off those temps above :)

My 3770k is at 4.6ghz, not sure if it would make a 400 point difference.

Did you do all the afterburner settings Matt posted in a screenshot a page or two back?

Exactly the same. Core clock is unaltered at 1018Mhz, memory at 1625Mhz. Undervolted by 0.70mv. ULPS disabled, power limit upped by 50%.

Only thing I have enabled in CCC is crossfireX forced, everything else default.

Ok, ran it again. At 1440p valley, everything maxed out, best I get is 3160.

That is quite a difference. I ran DDU to clean the drivers and uninstalled afterburner before the 295x2 went in, so there can't be anything left. Running latest omega drivers.

I wonder if the voltage can go lower?

3160 is pretty much exact same as mine, what did you change to fix it?

I'd try testing the voltage out in a game for a while, a few minutes on a benchmark sometimes isn't enough to prove stability.

Not really sure. Only thing I added was unified GPU usage monitoring in afterburner.

Your right, will see how it goes in games.

Happy with the new valley score :)

If you want some overclocking without increased power draw or heat, run undervolted at -0.050v and whack the memory up to 1625Mhz. The 295x2 appear to have golden memory chips, I've sampled three that did 1625Mhz at -0.050v.

About to try and oc mine, but as I have only a 850w psu I don't want to push it to far.

Do you think the above oc is possible without increasing the power limit?

Current system at stock, full load = 650w
System with no gpu, full load = 140w
GPU only = 510w

So if I set power limit at +50%, will gpu power increase by 50% => 510*1.5=765w

765+140= 900w total system draw (which is more than my 850w psu)

So I am still having a small issue. Once the computer shuts down, it won't switch on again if the dp is plugged in unless I clear the cmos. Any ideas? It is fine if I restart, but sleep or shut down just seems to kill it.

Has anyone tried one of the Noctua 2000rpm fans on this? Not sure if it would be better than the stock fan or not.

Improved temps slightly for me Tom. :)

Word of caution. If you intend for the 295x2 to control the fan speeds, you can only fit one 120MM Noctua Industrial PPC fan.

If you wish to use two fans you'll need a fan controller.

Amazing temps on this thing. Long session of gaming and it doesn't go above mid 50s. Quiet too. Such a pleasant change over every other x2 card I have owned.

Just need to sort my dp cable out tomorrow...hopefully that is causing my boot problems.
