AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

The sell out surprises me a bit but I can see why.

Regardless of all the negative crap some are posting, the 7900 XTX is a damn fine GPU (as is the 4080). The problem is not the tech, or the performance, it's the perceived value for money. The 7900 XTX does have better price/perf than the 4080 in the majority of games apart from RT. So the fact they can be had £150 cheaper than a 4080 is clearly helping people over that "how much!" hump.
It's also because the majority don't really care much for RT at this point other than the nVidia owners that use it as a main differentiator.

Just saw the Powercolor Radeon RX 7900 XT HellHound appears as available via the "Add To Cart" button on the main 7900 XT page however when you go on the actual page it is showing as not available.

@Gibbo: is it a new model model you were just able to get in or is this an error?

Having a read on amd reddit, seems like a good chunk amd owners/fans do care.....

Most obviously do. Who doesn't like better IQ? Not saying it is the case with everyone, but most will pretend they can't see the difference etc until suddenly AMD one day are ahead and they will go on and on about RT then. Just like how 4GB on Fury X was enough for 4K apparently, but then few gens later when AMD was ahead in vram suddenly you NEEDED 16GB and anything else was not enough. Right.. :p

Same happened with 4K. I had it like 8 years ago and was saying how much better it was, yes even on old lower res games. Most said they could not see the difference. Right... Now suddenly so many people can :D

Anyway, good to see all the 7900 XTX's selling out. Hope not all on eBay :)

Sure just look at the efficiency spiel, it was praised as the second coming for how long they had the lead here (at least in raster anyway), now all of a sudden, no one seems to care or bring that up as amd are arguably worse especially at idle with multi monitor setup....

Yeah because there was aboloutely zero hype before hand from the usual "leakers" spinning their bs and people getting carried away with their expectations for the first chiplet based gpu....right?

And I think you'll find the slides showed up to 1.7x performance boost key words being "up to". But as usual people ignore the "up to" and think that's 1.7x across the board. The way these internal benchmarks are done it's very possible they found some random area in cyberpunk (the only game that they claimed 1.7x), seen those performance numbers and used them in their performance graph slide. That's how a lot of these numbers are attained, trial and error in different areas on different maps in the game to see if there's any parts of the game where performance is on the up.

Its no different from a car manufacturer claiming some stupidly high MPG figure in their specific testing environment whereas in the real world you rarely get close to it.
Digital Foundry and other news outlets specifically asked AMD about the use of the word "upto" in the slides and got a response that the GPU is so fast that the CPU may bottleneck it. They didn't say it was on a specific spot but rather due to bottlenecking.

Callisto Protocol is a terribly optimised game. You can't use that as an indication for anything. Game stutters so badly due to shader compilation DF didn't even Want to cover it.
Callisto Protocol was patched the next day and since then also, so the stutters are completely fixed. Performance is better too. At launch it was stuttering, but it was fixed less than 24 hours later and has been refined further since then.

It runs very well on my 4090 and I expect it to run similarly on the 7900 XTX. I expect it to be slightly slower than the 4090 but faster than the 4080, and I'll be testing this when my sample arrives.

It was in my basket wish I got one now :(
I had it in my basket as well and couldn’t secure it at payment as it had sold out! Got the Pulse preordered instead. It has the 3x8 pin power connectors as well so should be able to overclock well.
