Wow. ok....

I don't get the LTT review, one minute its "don't buy on a promise of things to come" then "this will improve with these driver updates we're promised" err
Probably wanted to say it and meant it but said don't buy on a promise just in case it would come back to haunt him in the future

It varies from game to game, but on average its 3090/3090 TI RT performance. So is that good enough or not?

You have to apply it was only a few months back where you had a 3090 and could see where the RT was at. Its playable if you work on the settings so overnight its like the ampere line up has suddenly got **** for some folk. Basically if you had a mate with a top card last gen and wanted same RT performance then the AMD new gen isnt really a bad move, I would just keep an eye on the prices and grab whichever one offers best performance from where you were at.

The other thing to factor in is like bitwit showed in his video, top end cards like the 4090 are a bad idea if your system is based on older gen (i.e. ryzen 1600 or that era). Spec the system to compliment, it also applies to a decent display.

Some RT benchmarks from TPU review of the 7900 XTX TUF.

Seems to be similar performance to the 3090 TI in RT.

Picked one up at £999 and got a freebie coming too.

Will see how it goes further on, but 7900 lags behind de 3090ti if you increase the RT demand. Simple settings are fine, but look at CB how "well" it does.
Plus, FSR2.2 is not as wide spread as DLSS is and FSR 3.0 is MIA.

OK mr. positive! :p
Price wise there is nothing to be positive about these cards, not from nvidia, not from amd. performance is not necessarily terrible, is the price. :)

Price I completely agree, not interested in the slightest in any of them. Performance though if you were not on something better than a 3070 already, then its a reasonable jump (just not price at the moment).

Be very interesting to see if these cards improve over the next 6 months. Amazing launch really. Didn't think they would fly out like they did. Newegg sold out in 30 mins. Crazy.

Only thing I was disappointed about was the power consumption. Unless they can improve that over time too their claim was a bit off the mark. Could also be a case of the 4080 surprising everyone with how well that manages load. Everything else about the AMD cards we already knew and was in the ball park.

People are already ditching 3070s(ampere) for a 6900xt(rdna2). Why would that be?

Because they are still getting an upgrade in the majority of games, even extreme RT ones will run faster on a 7900 XTX compared to a 3070 (or even a 3080). Raster games are about 50% faster than a 3080 and double that of a 3070.

So someone on a 3080/6800 XT class GPU will get a very substantial upgrade. It's just the cost that is the problem.

My old 3070 max OC.

My 6900 XT max OC.

The bench is a RT bench, not raster.

3070 RDR2, below 60 FPS on 1440P.
6900 XT, above 80 FPS on 1440P.
