AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

Has anyone else noticed that while there is great anticipation for the 7900 xt and xtx, a lot of people say "it will drive NVIDIA prices down" rather than saying "I can't wait to buy one". In other words, people want it be competition for NVIDIA but they don't actually want to buy one themselves.
It doesn't matter how cheap it is if we don't buy it.

Yeah, well in that sense i hope Nvidia don't budge on prices because you know what i'm just as happy buying AMD as i am Nvidia and its not AMD's job to make GPU's cheaper for Nvidia fanboys.

People deserve what they get.

Totally agree.

I hope the Nvidia 5000 series is even more expensive. Milk them suckers!

I’m going AMD for my next card.

Careful what you wish for as AMD will up the prices as well.

I read people saying that at least AMD kept the same prices. Right... AMD 2nd card this gen (7900xt) is $899, while last gen 2nd card (6800xt) was $649 => a 39% increase in price from AMD.
This gen 2nd card (7900xt) also performs worse relative to top tear card of the competition (4090) compared to last gen (6800xt vs 3090).

AMD ain't your friend as well.

I take it you didnt check out the nvidia markup of the 3080 -> 4080 then... (60+% increase). Anything lower than the 4080 will be a sidegrade at best.

Strage points of reference there. None of them are your friend I agree.

Yeah as said in the previous thread by someone, AMD is just the lesser of two evils. As I pointed out before AMD has raised prices as the previous gen xx80 series competitor was $650 now this gens xx80 series competitor is $1000.
Yeah not as bad an Nvidia but they definately haven't kept the pricing the same as previous gens. They just rejigged the naming to make it seem more palatable.

Depends.

The chiplet designs should be giving them a manufacturing advantage. That should be good for them if they want to increase market share with aggressive pricing.

But prioritising opening with the high priced high end doesn't suggest they're looking to shift millions of cards any time soon.

I, for one, want to buy one. I haven't bought an nVidia card for many years due to their utter lack of ethics. They show no sign of changing that, so I'll keep buying AMD cards. Not once have I felt like I missed out on anything by doing so.

71%, $700 vs $1200 is +71% :)

This also with 47% less shaders than the 4090 vs about 15% less for the 3080 vs 3090.

The difference last time though was nvidia had the 3080 for £649, now we got the 4070 for £1267.

Interesting comment I've just seen on good old reddit. Potentially one of the reasons, AMD has moved to double FP32 per stream processer, is to increase performance in Nvidia optimised titles. Their evidence for this was that in AMDs slides there was a bigger performance increase in CP2077 (RT off) than MW2 (1.7x vs 1.5x) which i recently learnt is very well optimised for AMD cards.

I was being generous bug when most of the AIB versions were £800+ and you of course get all the debaters using the FE price as the floor for the 4080 (which we know is not the average cost they will command at all). :)

If your used to spending £650ish pounds on your component, I don't think anyone sees a doubling in cost as welcome. You cant really justify nvidia really, they unlaunched a product as it was 'confusing' to have same name yet then next week happily bring out more flavours of the 3060 series.. "just rejigging the naming to make it seem more palatable" no?

Nobody should be nailing their colours to the mast these days. However one thing everyone understands is price. ;)

There's plenty about the 4080 being DOA but what is the market for the 7900 XT (not XTX) meant to be.

While I think people are off their heads for thinking it's fine to hop from the price point of the XTX to the 4090, the price difference between the XT and XTX means AIB cards are going to instantly be in XTX price range...

I'd agree, I think this was intended to be a $700 7800XT but with the price and performance of the 4080 AMD took the opportunity to shuffle names and prices.

Is that ignoring AMD 6950xt which makes AMDs 2nd card the 6900xt then which was $999 also. If you are using naming scheme.

Also we have no idea on rasterisation performance being worse than previous either but relative increases from AMD are still significantly much better.

Not saying friends of course. However yes the 7900xtx vs 6900xt is the same price still no matter how you cut it then. The 7900xt is just $100 too much and should be $799 with the room for a 7800xt to still happily slot in at $649.

Well being realistic you wont suddenly get 80% of the mindshare transforming overnight and queuing at the store to pick up AMD cards. Guarantee that!

You might get about 5% if your lucky, so I hope like most folk people just sit and wait so the prices of both vendors suddenly gets to 'offers' and 'deals' like we used to get not many years back.

Didn't the 6950xt come out a fair while after the 6900xt? Would there be a 7950xt in a few months time costing more than the 7900xtx?
