AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

Being that these are unconfirmed and there are no benches like these with any RDNA3 product short of what AMD have said, I have no idea how you could say anything really.

Sure, but given "it will trade blows with the 7900XTX" the least i was expecting was to that, failing that maybe see it nearly trading blows with 4090 in that case as an alternative, right........

Too much daft on this forum sometimes....

Ok and how does @Grim5 know "that will trade blows with the 7900XTX"?

Do we have for example any actual comparisons? I mean comparing it to the 7900XTX would be a silly thing for me to ask for given its never been reviewed so we don't know anything about it, so how about a 3090Ti? or a 4090?

I was expecting leaked 7900XTX benchmarks, shame, should have know tho....

It's not 7900xtx benchmarks. It's 4080 benchmarks, it's other users who compared it for the numbers AMD released a few days ago and it looks like they trade where the settings are known. Iirc in RDR2 their 4080 number looks 6 or 7% higher than 7900xtx and their MW2 numbers look 8 or 9% under the 7900xtx

How would you know that? I only see the graphics settings for one game.

This is not a surprise as AMD have stated the 7900XTX is competing with the 4080 but is priced $200 less. So I expect 7900XTX to overall win in raster but lose in RT. Nvidia have not dropped 4080 16GB price, so they obviously feel the RT performance and NV mindshare is enough to justify that 20% higher cost.

Edit: I expect the 7900XT to be close in raster to the 4080 16GB but a fair bit slower in RT. So would I spend $300 for faster RT? Given that I have only played a few games where RT made a tangible difference, no I would not... but many would.

TBH imo 4080 should be DOA at least until after the 7900xtx is reviewed. To buy a 4080 before the reviews of the 7900xtx would be rather foolish.

While I agree i expect the 4080 to be slightly faster in RT I also expect the 7900xtx to be significantly faster in raster, AMDs peformance figures of 1.5-1.7x gains on the 6950x puts it closer to the 4090 than the 4080, now we will need to wait until reviews to find out if that is the case, but atm, my general expectations are for the 7900xtx to be around 3090ti level of RT performance but comfortably between the 4080 and 4090 in raster performance, I expect the 4080 may get close in some games but the overall performance that i'm expecting is for the 7900xtx to be comfortably above the 4080.

Reviews can't come soon enough!

Last I remember reading up on FSR some time ago, it could be enabled through the AMD driver in any game. Has this changed?

That's RSR, similar to FSR 1 and nvidias method called NIS. It's dlss 2 and FSR 2 that you want if you're going to be using upscaling tech.

I agree with this. Based on the benchmarks already provided by AMD and the calculations made by Linus with a ratio of 1.5 / 1.7 against the 6950XT, it's probably about 10-15% away from the 4090. There is no way the 4080 would be that close to the 4090. The card would be pointless then...

Right, not with 47% less shaders it wont :)

To me it seems some people have some kinda of weird desperation to try and write AMD off immediatly, until early December no one can truely know how it will compare, but it definitley appears on the surface the 7900xtx will easily out perform the 4080. Until we have reviews to show otherwise the smart choice atm at least is to wait until both cards are reviewed.

Not when the price differnce is this huge, I barely use DLSS even at 1440P with my 3070.
really? i always use it when available on a 3080, more frames more better, or higher settings and same frames, the main pull for nvidia here is you can use dlss/fsr/xess but if you go amd you instantly lose any dlss only game improvements so amd needs to bring some beefier chops to the table to make up for that before i would jump ship

The same excuses happened in the past, be it physx, hairworks, g-sync etc. The latest one is ray tracing. Whilst it is a cool feature its still in its infancy and not supported by much of the volume out there regardless of what salesmen say. So even now when AMD is actually 'competitive' and is a chunk cheaper you are still seeing the boo boys playing it down. As I expect most enthusiasts to have an ampere card already, the recent gen release of cards probably wont be attracting many due to the insane prices. The performance leap is OK or par for the course. Its going to be interesting to see how many people buy these sku's as they are all over a grand.

I am in for a new pc once the 7000X3D's ship. I was/am a lock for a 4090, but i certainly won't be sitting around waiting for availability (I've suffered long enough lol). If the 4090's are not readily available I will snap up a 7900XTX if their availability is better without hesitation.

Yeah but 4080 is close to the 4090, in certain games, because there is no CPU on the market that keeps up with the 4090 in every game (well it's either the CPU or something else bottlenecking the 4090 but that's the reality, the 4080 is within 10% of the 4090 in some games whether people like it or not)
